i don't know why you would expect the game to get more realistic, there hasn't been an update since your last thread (obviously). i think this problem is mostly a problem of expectations misaligned with the reality of the sim.
as far as the PBP window dressing question - certain parts are window dressing (such as some of the details of the wording), while other parts are not. making and missing shots is definitely not window dressing. while frustrating, teams have scoring droughts in real games all the time. and in a coin flipping world, it happens too. even with a high 60 FGAs per game, thats 1.5 per minute. 5 minutes is only 7.5 attempts on average... usually in a drought this will be significantly lower, say 5. 2^5 is only 32. you have 8 5 minute periods in a game. just viewing those periods, it would be pretty likely you don't score in one of them, and i suspect if you score 1 basket, you aren't exactly thrilled. chopping the game into pre-defined 5 minute periods isn't really valid statistically either, there are many more sequences of events, any of which can go badly for you. my guess is if you are winning games (which you are, sometimes, at least), you are also having some pretty good 5 minute stretches. if those are in balance, you basically have nothing to complain about, and if not, your team is either not that good/well player or you just have a little bad luck. but again, i think this is primarily a problem of the gap between expectations and reality.
your center is REALLY poor on defense, frankly, any game the opposing center doesn't destroy you, that's when you should be up in arms - not the reverse. again, its an issue of expectations not matching reality. in the case of the center, i think you simply have unrealistic expectations. in other cases, the reality is the game does not match real basketball to the level you'd expect. ultimately i think you need to decide to accept the sim for what it is, or not, because we all know situations never work out well when the deviation between expectations and reality is substantial, and here, its pretty huge. if you choose to accept the sim, then you can learn where you are viewing things incorrectly - like the case with your center. expecting anything from him, defensively, is a mistake - he's really bad on defense and im not sure there is any interpretation of the value of the ratings that leads to a different conclusion.
