Blue-to-Black Before Regular Season Is Real Topic

I recently signed a frosh point guard who was low-hi in ballhandling. He gained one point in BH during the exhibition season and started the regular season as black.

Sincerely,

No Longer Skeptical of the Almost-Instant, Blue-to-Black Phenomenon

Hey, at least he gained one point before turning black! I've had a number of players switch to black after the first exhibition without a visible point gained.

Yeah I grabbed a drop down guy in my 3rd season who had no red potentials, which I thought was awesome and the guy would get amazing. This was before I really knew how potential worked but over the first 4 games he had 5 categories go from either blue to black or black to red. After that I really started focusing on my scouting reports cause it was just depressing. Also throwing this in about free throw potential, I received the same scouting report (both blue but I'm assuming low from the sound of the report) for two players, one of them came in as a c- and is now a c+, it moved to black but there was about a week where it was c+ and blue still. The other guy came in at d+ and it moved to black without changing at all. I guess since both still have room to improve it'll take till they go low to know for sure but for right now it seems pretty odd.

Yup, just now in Knight I had a recruit with two black-to-reds after the first practice, no points gained.

Fractional points are a b*tch!

and i just had one turn black to red immediately when they showed up on campus before any exhibition games were played...customer support attributed it to some mythical practice that supposed takes place while everyone's moving into their dorm rooms.

So edge cases of high or average should not exist?

Changing before the first practice seems... odd.

nobody is saying this is happening before the first practice, are they? the OP was before the first game, which is after 2 practices.

See bow2dacowz above.

oh wow, very interesting. that doesn't make any sense. we know there was an issue where viewable potential would different from listed potential (start of the year email player thoughts, which is gone, i think), but that was because borderline cases would show up differently on the two (a +20 high would show medium but be listed as high in the player thoughts message).

but changing ACTUAL potential before the first practice, that kind of makes no sense. anyone else see this going on?

I think it's going on, but I would guess that the issue is two different methods of rounding in the programming.  A recruit gets a blue during recruiting, but gets run through a different operation to display roster potential.  There's no other way to explain the change prior to the first practice.

Maybe this is related or maybe it isn't. I had a player with 79 perimeter and blue. It turned black while still at 79 as you would expect. The player finished the season at 89 or 90 perimeter. At the start of next season he came to campus with a 92 perimeter and red. Is there just something weird going on with potentials?

I had multiple recruits suffer from this to start the season. Has anyone seen whether it affects how much they can improve? Or will a blue to black without improvement still get  +21?
