I am posting my Smith Menlo team above, and would like opinions on who should be my starting C in the post-season.  I have been going with a variety of lineups during the regular season (mostly to maximize WE improvement), but want to field the best possible team in the post-season to position for a deep run.  We run a Flex-Man, and I am thinking my starters will be PG-Ohler, SG-Brady, SF-Tarkington, PF-Phelps.  Starting at C would be either Johnson (C+/C+ IQs), Rhymes (B+/A-) or Schwamberger (A-/A-).  I am torn - this involves the age old debate of the importance of ATH vs SP in a big man, the importance of IQ and passing.  Would love to hear thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

BTW, I am leaning towards Schwamberger.

I would go with Rhymes. The passing is better which is nice especially for flex, but the defense and ath pits him over the top for me. It is close, though. Good luck

I would go with Rhynes

I would go Johnson then rhynes as my top 2. Btw. Nice tea for a d3 school you have some good Athletes

Looking at the ratings alone, I also would have picked Rhynes, but now we are 22 games into the season, so there should be a reasonable sample size of stats to evaluate.  The interesting thing is that all three players have about the same minutes and starts, and their stats (below) do not IMO reflect the conventional wisdom about the importance of athleticism and defense.  It is difficult from the stats to tell if opponents have an easier time scoring on Schwam due to his lower ATH and DEF, but I expected him to have more fouls and less steals than he does.  He is blocking about 50% more shots than each of the other two, so his higher SB and SP is more than compensating for lower ATH.  And again, his higher RB is more than compensating for lower ATH.  I note that in particular, he is way more effective in offensive rebounds (maybe because of his relative speed?)  and that seems to be resulting in easy baskets and the highest FG% of the three even though he has the lowest ATH and LP.  However, Schwam seems to be struggling in the area of assists and turnovers, due to his lower PA and ATH.

A. Johnson Fr. C 22 11 20.3 .520   .784 1.0 4.1 0.2 1.3 0.6 1.0 1.8 8.5
D. Rhynes Jr. C 22 13 19.0 .451 .000 .738 1.2 4.9 0.6 1.2 0.6 1.1 1.5 6.7
M. Schwamberger So. C 22 12 18.9 .556 .000 .795 2.3 6.0 0.3 1.5 0.5 1.5 1.4 6.4

So these stats are making my decision-making process that much more difficult.  One thought is to start Phelps at SF, backed up by Tarkington, and start Rhynes and Schwam at the 4 and 5.  I have occasionally done this throughout the season with good results.  I may just have to stay flexible and keep make game by game decisions based on matchups, but there should also be an optimal answer in the abstract, and I am having trouble finding it.

Ive had guys on my team that should have got well over 10 rebounds per game and only got 7 rebounds per game.. some under achievers. Guys that do not play as good as their ratings suggest..... in this case schwam seems to be the guy

What?  6 rebounds in 18.9 minutes is pretty freaking good.  Also, there's pretty much no such thing as a guy who should get well over 10 rebounds per game.

Maybe shouldnt have put the phrase well over in there, but ive seen players with 56 Ath 85 Reb average 12 rpg and 75Ath 99Reb avg 12rpg some players out perform their ratings and I feel some players under perform

Well, we have been playing against good competition - only 2 SIMS and 8 ranked teams out of the 22 games.  I actually felt that Schwam is performing better than I expected relative to the other 2 given his 50 ATH.  That's why I am considering starting him.

IF you start Schwam against a good coach who has a low post threat he is going to be attacked and abused.   I know I look for the 40 DEF when game planning.
