Looking at the ratings alone, I also would have picked Rhynes, but now we are 22 games into the season, so there should be a reasonable sample size of stats to evaluate. The interesting thing is that all three players have about the same minutes and starts, and their stats (below) do not IMO reflect the conventional wisdom about the importance of athleticism and defense. It is difficult from the stats to tell if opponents have an easier time scoring on Schwam due to his lower ATH and DEF, but I expected him to have more fouls and less steals than he does. He is blocking about 50% more shots than each of the other two, so his higher SB and SP is more than compensating for lower ATH. And again, his higher RB is more than compensating for lower ATH. I note that in particular, he is way more effective in offensive rebounds (maybe because of his relative speed?) and that seems to be resulting in easy baskets and the highest FG% of the three even though he has the lowest ATH and LP. However, Schwam seems to be struggling in the area of assists and turnovers, due to his lower PA and ATH.

So these stats are making my decision-making process that much more difficult. One thought is to start Phelps at SF, backed up by Tarkington, and start Rhynes and Schwam at the 4 and 5. I have occasionally done this throughout the season with good results. I may just have to stay flexible and keep make game by game decisions based on matchups, but there should also be an optimal answer in the abstract, and I am having trouble finding it.
