Importance of globe in centerfield Topic

Hi,

What would you guys do with an OF with 95 range and 60 glove? Does he need to be a corner OF? I think I read at some point that range was more important in centerfield but I don't know if you can push it that far with a weak glove? Has anyone tried it?

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't play a 60 glove in CF. Too many chances out there.

He'd probably get 15-20 errors and 15-20 positive plays.    Pretty much offsets itself so he would need to have the bat to make up for it.

I agree with the toad.

If the dude can OPS .900, I'd live with a push between errors and positive plays.

Of course, he'd be GG LF and hit like one if he could do that.

Disagree that he would make only 15-20 errors; I used to think it was OK to play a 68-72 glove in CF and got 15-20 errors at that level.  I'd expect 25-30.

OK, I'm your research monkey.   Here's the league leaders from the 5 worlds I'm currently in for single season errors in CF.  I only counted the ones that were at least S10 or newer(because the engine changed at some point and I'm not sure when).

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Ken Vickers  44 in S15.  Tanker.
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Bruce Purcell  38 in S29.  Tanker.
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Anibal Rivera  27 in S30.  The only one who should have even been considered for CF.   But he had low range.

Nonetheless, 25-30 might be right.   He had a 59 glove.

If you can put a globe in CF it may distract the opponents hitters and fielders. Especially if it is a disco globe.

My CFs don't need a globe.  We hire travel agents to handle geography.

I'm kind of impressed that Vickers only had 11 minus plays to go along with those errors. I would've expected a lot more, since he had a range of 5.

He gets an A for effort.

I've played high range players like that at first base. They snare a lot of would-be doubles and triples, and thus get a lot of plus plays. Also I think, save a few errors from errant throws from the other infielders.

I once knew a girl with a great set of globes that could play a decent CF in our co-ed league.

Don't get snowed by the low globe theory

I tried putting globes in CF, but the CFer kept tripping over them.
