Fastbreak Offense Topic

I notice very few fastbreak offense teams ever find themselves in the top 25 why is that?

Very few people really know how to run it.

very few people try to run it

however those who do know how to run/recruit it can be extremely good.(I am not one of them) Not sure if this is true but it seems FB/FCP is more effective at D3 as it seems the talent is thinner.  In Knight the past 3 D3 Champs are FB/FCP

Up until this season biddy has run fast break at Virginia state in knight. I don't ever remember him starting the season ranked but his teams always do well. I think the reason he isn't ranked is because to run a successful fast break team you don't necessarily need the best numbers in all the core categories. Stamina is very importantEspecially if you pair it up with the press.

So, I think the reason they aren't often ranked is because rankings are somewhat based on overall numbers and that just isn't required for a successful fast break team.

I run fb and was ranked 2 out of the last 3 years. A lot of teams I notice are ranked either a) have a lot if upperclassmen or b) ratings are real high. Need good depth, so I go for a lot of Juco or transfers.

It is a little more challenging but you just need to recruit to the system.  You can definetly be successful at any level running FB.  Even at high D1 as I think my team is an example of that.  I find my teams are evenly ranked every year, no different than the motion, flex and triangle teams.  Big time success is more than possible.  Just not a lot of examples of how to do it out there.

Top 25 is dumb and meaningless.

I just feel like it's a ****** offense.

Oh, it can be a very good offense, colonels. You just can't build it precisely like you build other offenses. It takes a bit of a different tact, and no, it's not just "load up on speed and ath". Ran it quite successfully at curry, and was successful with it in some other stops.(for some reasonable definitions of reasonably successful.)

I am tempted to try fastbreak - if you are willing would you in the forum or in a sitemail share key tips for someone experienced but who has never tried FB?

Stamina is a must. Ball handling is a must, speed and ath. Lp and per while not unimportant are less important. High iq is something you definitely want. Fastbreak tends to devolve into turnover nightmare if you don't have a good bh and iq.

Recruiting the right players to fit the system is essential. Having a high IQ in fastbreak is more important than any of the other offenses.

If you're thinking about running FB for the first time, it may good idea to check out the other teams. See what works, what doesn't. Why does player A have so many turnovers? Why is this player shooting at a high percentage? I prefer the FB/FCP combo as opposed to running just a fastbreak/zone/m2m for several reasons.

Running a fastbreak seems to have more success at the lower levels than at D-1, but don't have any significant data to back up that claim.

I'm interesting in knowing how much passing plays a part in a fastbreak system. Is it possible that a team with good ballhandling, speed, IQ can get away with having inadequate passing?

I like perimeter more than most coaches in the fastbreak, however won't sacrifice it for speed or ballhandling. Sometimes, it might be a nice option to have that wide open three pointer.

I found at least at curry a really high pass pg really improves things in the fb.
