What is your opinion for a 1 Spd center on a fastbreak/zone team? (possibly career back up)

If his "cores" (ATH/REB/DEF/BLK) are good go for it.....

Haha, how can someone have a speed rating of 1? I mean, I get it, I'm just trying to imagine it... what, does he leisurely stroll down to the other side of the court every possession, stopping to high-five fans along the way?

I don't run fastbreak, never have. But I certainly wouldn't take a player with the worst possible speed rating when that entire offense is reliant upon being speedy. Maybe if that speed rating is blue-blue, but even then... I'd avoid him.

He will be about
ATH-65-70
REB-97
DEF-60
SB-99

btw this is D2

In a effin heartbeat.

Thats a great zone center. I don't have any experience with fastbreak, but I imagine you can adjust for that speed as long as you have other offensive options. I'd try to make sure you have a four with enough speed to make it down the court to pick up some offensive boards, though. :)

Yeah, those other numbers are pretty darn tempting, actually... in fact, very tempting. You should probably disregard what I said before.

He could be that type of player that's so slow getting back on defense that he's the "first" one up the court on the break.
2/17/2015 1:28 PM
yes as a freshman he is starting out with
ATH - 40 high
REB-89
SB-92

If you know he's high/high athleticism, you should definitely consider him. If he's low/high, he's a bit more of a tossup, especially if his stamina won't get above 75 or so. If he's low/high, it's going to take some work to get him above 60 ath. 68+ ath with those other cores is a no-brainer, IMO.

Take him.

Thanks, I had already grabbed him, but was wandering if it was a good move. Signed him for $934

You added 16 points of improvement for his defense. Does that mean is average potential? You're going to hate that guy if his defense goes red immediately. He could top of at 51 defense which means struggles to get to 50. I know it's too late but that would have been a deal stopper for me unless I needed him for depth. He is not a starter at center for me at DII running a zone unless he is at the top end of that average. Or if he could had great scoring potential as well.

If his defense is ?/high I wouldn't hesitate signing him

In your next class I would look to get someone that can balance his skills.

Also, looks like your rebuilding. He is a great sign for a rebuild

I agree, that was my biggest hesitation, but my planning was at worst he would be a career backup, and as a backup with those reb and sb i would be happy. I did not mean to add 16 to def, I agree, I am estimating he will top out at 54 def. With his first 2 years on campus he will be behind 70-95 def starters.

the good news is if you lose the ball off a turnover in transition, that center will be the first guy back on defense, since he never really moved to begin with..lol
