D- D1 recruiting Topic

How big of a drag is it, whats the best I can go up to?  Os it really worth waiting a season or two to get a D or D+.

There's a fairly big dropoff in who you can recruit between D- and D+, and there's a gap between D and D-.  I would recommend waiting for a D+, figuring you're going to be terrible your first season while starting freshman, will then drop to D.  At that point you can start to right the ship and hopefully don't go any lower than D.

theOnly, Unless you get a top team in the BCS, I think waiting is not about the D or D+. As Bath explained to me, you need base prestige teams. So if you can get a B to C base prestige team, go for it, sit on that team until you can get to BCS.

I made the mistake to take a team with a base prestige too low. I did not know better at the time. I will have to move from that team to a B to C base prestige, then to a BCS job. I won't make the same mistake twice.

So it's not possible to jump from a D school to a BCS school if you bring it up?  Lets say a 1st round and S16 or would I have to jump to a mid-major?  I'm planning on moving up from a D3 school, if I was to stay an extra season I probably at best get a 2nd round appearance, which I don't know if that bumps me up to D/D+

And recruiting wise how big is the difference from D- D and D+ is it by ranking or stars?

As I said, it does not matter since once you get the gig, you need to go from D- to about B (approximatively) to be able to land a BCS job. So scout the base prestige of the teams, choose one that will help you go faster since the base prestige helps on the reputation.

I went straight from a D baseline to a BCS school. I took over ETSU with D- prestige, stayed there nine seasons, brought them up to B prestige, and then jumped to C+ South Carolina. I was still a longshot for some B- ACC jobs, which I think is dumb, but going from D- prestige to a BCS job is definitely doable. It's been done over and over. And honesty, it doesn't have to take nine seasons. ETSU was in a competitive division with three other championship-caliber coaches, so NT bids were tough to come by. I ended up jumping after three NT bids, one PIT, three NT wins, and a Sweet Sixteen in my most recent season.

I would say it is probably easier to jump up to low BCS (C prestige) from an established, quality D2 team than from a low D1 team, unless you're in a completely empty conference and have a gold-plated path to the NT every year.

it's not very hard to bring a D baseline school in an empty conference up to the B range. just win win win win win. beat all those bad sims. get to the NT. you'll move that prestige up in a few seasons if you win 20+ games and make the postseason. you can jump to a BCS school with that kind of record, especially if you can win some NT games.

You have a different definition of "hard" than I do.......to get to a BCS level job you really need to win some NT games, which is "hard"

well it depends on the world for sure. i'm only in Tark and Smith. in Tark it's a little more competitive. in Smith, there are several coaching vacancies in the BCS level that could be attained by the level of success i describe.

If you look at my Crum resume, I coached at Eastern Illinois for 5 seasons. In my last 3 seasons I went 1st rd NT exit twice and then lost in the 2nd round. Their baseline is d+, and that's where they were when I took them over. Got prestige up to b- and then moved onto Tennessee (C+ at the time). But playing in an empty conf helped he me make the tourney 3 straight seasons to get that prestige up.

You can go to a mid major if you want, but there are generally more humans in the conference, making it tougher to make the NT. Lack of NT appearances makes it almost impossible to get a BCS gig.

You have to win a game as well.

I think it's still pretty hard... I am there with my other ID (carl3298) and did okay with Samford, then Xavier, now I am getting gut punched at Maryland in one recruiting cycle.... the big six conferences are mostly full.

Just checked - Iowa St. Vandy, Auburn are the only big 6 schools open.  Ivy has lots of human coaches too, and a decent amount in A10.
