Very interesting....strange numbers to be sure....

100 RBI in a little more than a full season's worth of PA - for someone who appears to be a terrible hitter.
56 Sac hits, strongly suggests either a modern-day pitcher, or else someone from the deadball era...but the very low strikeout rate eliminates the former option
very few runs scored for someone who was on base more than 200 times

i was thinking pitcher, but with zero sb's listed, its making me think of some base theif, who didnt play a whole lot....

My guess is Dwight Gooden.

They look like a pitcher's stats, one who was a decent hitter.  I agree with contrarian that it's probably not a modern pitcher given the K/BB ratio, but I'd also rule out a deadball pitcher because I don't think they sacrificed as much.  Probably a pitcher from the 30's-60's. 

Sain

Sain is clearly right...though I confess I am now confused.  Not sure why that's interesting.  He was a marginally-better-than-average hitter for a pitcher of his era, didn't strike out that often.

Is it the K rate that makes this noteworthy?

And what stat(s) not listed would have given it away?

perhaps listing the number of games he played in would give it away (i.e. averaged less than 2 PA's per game played)? It is remarkable he only fanned 20 times in 856 PAs. 24 walks ain't many either. Wonder what his contact rate was?

elbirdo got it, it is Johnny Sain, and yes contrarian23, it is how incredibly few times he struck out - 20 times in 774 career at bats - that struck me as interesting and kind of amazing, though his number of walks is equally striking. He did not get robbed of taking his cuts at the plate, let's put it that way. 

skunk206, it is the number of games played and number of seasons that would have given away that it was a pitcher, though I figured that this crowd would have gotten that it was a pitcher pretty quickly.

Ok, I thought you meant it would have given away who it was, not just that it was a pitcher.
