My first recruiting class Topic

Hey I just been reading the boards. Read aejones page. I got Lakeland in Naismith. I think I did a decent job for having a poor prestige. If anyone can give me direction for depth chart. Game planning. Three point shot plus and minus. Just wanna see what someone who is experienced thinks. Plus how u think I will do in my conference

One of the biggest mistakes that rookies make is trying too hard to fill all open scholarships.  Don't be afraid to take a walkon or two, it allows you more money per recruit.  If this is your first season you probably didn't get to use Future Stars Scouting.  If you have any leftover recruiting money spend it on FSS for the upcoming season after recruiting is over.

Prestige doesn't mean nearly as much as you probably think it does (in DIII at least).  I would probably go as far as to say you can ignore prestige when battling for recruits.  Distance advantage is much more important at your level.  The key to recruiting is efficient spending.  Know when to use Home Visits, when to use Campus Visits, and when to use Scouting Trips.  Make sure every action has a calculated purpose.  Don't waste money by using more HV's/SV's/CV's than you have to.

Yeah I had fss

I spent 110 on a real bad senior. Just so he would graduate next year and have an open scharahip. I waks gonna bank a scholarship but I liked the freshman from bama a lot. He had real good potentials. I bought fss on the state cuz a jc transfer with 2 years left that was above average in my defense was there. And there was a freshman I just couldn't pass up

Witney - all I can say is, at least he's a senior and will be gone again the next year. You pretty much don't want anyone on your team with a nine athleticism and a Ten defense seeing any playing time. You would have been better off on that one with a freshman that might be able to improve a bit, but those ratings make for a defensive sieve. That would be an example of a recruit where leaving the spot open might have been a better bet. Gut with that ath and def doesn't really do much of anything for you.

Whitney is only for the purpose of having another graduating senior. For recruiting money next year.

I was gonna bank a scholarship too but the bama kid had to much potential in defense low post rebounding block shots to pass up

You definitely need to tell a student manager to tackle Whitney if he even tries to step on the court during a game. And somehow you managed to get guys from a bunch of states I didn't scout, so I can't really give feedback on the class since I can't see any potentials. Looks like you addressed a bit of the class balance issue though by getting a mix of FR and upper class types, so good move there.

Good move signing the senior. Most coaches don't learn that tip until much later

So you had some carryover banked still? That's cool.

larman, based on your statements so far it sounds like you have preped for the game. First of all, I am a VERY AGGRESSIVE coach, so if you are conservative some of my comments may not work for you. For D3 your Reb, P, Sta are good. Your S, PE and BH are OK. Your A, D,  LP and WE are a disaster. I would work on WE, D and A in that order next year. You have a lot of guys hat are not going to reach their potential because of the WE. You are awful in D and A.

You have a lot of interchangeable parts and some options but here is how I would set up my depth chart. PG Ray, Jones. SG Couch, Mercer. SF Walter, Harrison. Bigs  Whitney, Waller. Bigs Trsverso, Benavides. I list them as Bigs because I move them around depending on the opponent.

I am very aggressive on 3pt shooting. At +1 JM. At "0" RA, MW, RJ, AN, BH. This can be your biggest weapon once you can settle in. In D3 at 50+ PE & 33% I go "0". At 63PE & 35% I go +1. At 72PE and 37% I go +2. If at these PE's the % is not there, I drop them down.

Because you are in a SIM conference, you  have yo play more NC Humans next year.

I hope something here helps you in some way. If you would like aggressive info in the future just sight mail me. I would be glad to assist. GL this year. It looks like it's going to be very challenging.

Thanks a lot for the feedback and I might check back in with you a few times this season if I need some advice

My biggest concern was setting up three point shooting. Cuz I don't know how the game will react.

With recruiting I was waiting for players to drop down instead of pulling them down

I'm real confused with the whole pull down thing. Scared to try it

Compared to my conference I thought I recruited good enough to compete for the league tourney title by the end of the year
5/24/2015 5:42 PM
That may be a little optimistic. At a glance, there are 3-4 teams you will have to deal with. Plus you've got 6 low WE guys who are not going to improve at a normal rate, which will distance you further from the decent WE teams. A PT appearance would be a more likely objective.

So I am not doing too bad 5-2. I am interested in hearing others opinions on wat they think I could do differently with players I already have. just want to hear some thoughts about game planning or management of my team ideas. Thanks in advance

You're definitely going about things the right way.

I have a few little tidbits of advice that could maybe help you out. . And you are doing a lot of things right, so keep that in mind.

Glad to hear that you read the aejones guide, and you are interested in learning more about this very addicting game.

1. Take Whitney completely off your depth chart. He's terri-awful. Those 5.3 minutes are 5.3 minutes too many.

2. It looks like Benavidez will improve a lot. That's good, I think he's potentially your only worthwhile big, and a good recruit.

3. If Newman doesn't have ATH or DEF potential, he will never be a good player for you, and you might consider cutting him in the future.

4. If Harrison's going to improve, keep playing him, but cut his distro drastically. He's not a scorer.

5. If Waller is going to improve significantly in ATH, he could be pretty good, and merits a solid amount of playing time. If not, then he doesn't bring much to the table.

6. I would set Harrison, Ayers, and Jones to -2 as far as 3-point shooting. With perimeter ratings in the 50's, they're not going to be making many 3's, so there's no point in attempting them. Plus, you have other solid 3-point shooters on the team.

What I really like is that you're shooting 39% from 3, and your opponents are shooting 27%.

You have a pretty solid rebounding disadvantage, but that can only be fixed by recruiting some better bigs in the upcoming seasons.

Good luck, and feel free to site mail me if you have any questions

Newman is high potential in ath speed pass and ball handle. Harrison is almost all high potential. Waller has a good number of high potential and just went from high to average in Ath. I think he should grow 20 spots when they change happens.

I ran espns per or player effective formula thru my team. Of my rotation players traverse was the highest and Walters was second. Newman was actually way higher than the rest of the team at 32. But that's prolly cuz he didn't play much and didn't have much opportunity to make errors.

Does anyone else figure out their players. ESPN per rating
