New Team, Years Away Topic

Took over a new franchise and played through the season. After 1/2 the season pushing for the playoffs I found myself 16 games out and off loaded some of my 30+ year old starters and big contracts. Call this tanking if you want, but was 20 games under .500 and no one who would make a BL roster any better anywhere in the system.

That said, I was able to get several part players back in trade who can help in a season or two. Question is this: my roster budget was 105 for this season and returning players now will not require 44m. Since I can only move my prospect budget up 4m per season I can only get it to 14 next year. Should I keep player budget high and transfer it over to prospect when the season starts?

You can move prospect budget to 20m next season.

If you didn't even know that, I have to question the quality of the trades you made without even seeing them.

There it is.. A brand new player asks a question and shortly after somebody pops on with an off topic ashole response..

Can't see your ADV scouting budget, but since this was your first season with the team, it's safe to assume that it was no higher than $14m.  And quite possibly it was the default of $10m since as a first time HBD player, and a $105m payroll budget is the "default" if no other budget changes are made.

That said, unless you had a mentor or somebody else who could look at the trades you were making and give you some guidance on your moves, it's possible that you may have hurt yourself more than you helped yourself in the long run.

Maybe there's a way we could look at the trades.

They're not good but not horrible.   He gave up a 27 y/o C that can stroke it, but with a 38 DUR, for a crappy 1B.
He gave up a 28 y/o RP, very good RP, for 2 buckets of crap.

If there's a problem, it's that he gave up players who could help in a couple of seasons.   They have plenty of years left.

It's not off topic at all.  It's as on topic as it can get.  If you don't understand the game, the last thing you should be doing is making trades.

Well gee slashtc, maybe the Players Guide can create a 'don't understand the game' chapter. Its not like you get a sponsor assigned to you. If you don't read the forum up front, you don't really know the perils of trade rape in HBD.

Ramey519 just wants to get involved and learn - what I feel - is a great alternative to fantasy baseball. Isn't that what everyone wants?

So in the end, while I agree with you, the way you phrased your post above makes you look like a ******* douche bag.

I think the 38 durability guy is pretty intriguing. What do you think is the best way to make that platoon work? That is, what's the best way of getting to 300 PAs? Do you try to use him as first off the bench pinch hitter on off days or keep him rested on off days? I've kind of avoided guys like that in the past, and probably at my own peril.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Juan Ferrer   I started him 76 times in S27 when he got 312 AB.    He got replaced defensively a lot(most of his starts were as DH) and was the first pinch-hitter off the bench.

If calling it like it is makes me a douchebag, then so be it.  I'm pretty sick of the pussification of America anyway.  Nobody knows how to handle any adversity because we spend our whole lives trying to protect them from ever having to deal with it.  If that comment was enough to get your panties in a bunch, that seems like a you problem much more than a me problem.

While I tend to agree about the pussification of America thing, I think a bigger issue is the lack of owners in HBD(at least related to this site).    Part of Ramey's post makes me wonder if he's really "new"(the reference to tanking) but, if he is, that was not a very welcoming response to his first post.   It's always easier to say nothing.   I sometimes struggle with that when a question is posed as a statement because the OP is just seeking confirmation.   But that wasn't the case here.   He was just asking a question.

slashtc -

Again, I have no issue with WHAT you said, only HOW you said it. 'Calling it like it is' is fine. Doing it in such a way where a new owner decides he has enough crap in his life rather than deal with other owners who are abrasive when the dude is just asking a question makes you a douchebag. That guy might buy into 4 or 5 worlds. He might take care of all his minor league teams. Make those worlds a lot better. We all want new owners to come in and ask questions and be successful. Thats what makes HBD better.

If you want me to draw you a flow chart that you can understand, just give me a minute and I'll grab some crayons.

I would LOVE to see a flow chart.

Mike - I think I have some paste and construction paper too. Well, I tend to eat the paste, so maybe not...
