academic ineligble leave after 4yrs? Topic

I took over ole miss and just noticed my lone SR was an "ineligble" his fresh yr.  i DONT want him to return for his 5th yr but his avg GPA is at 2.6,  by throwing 0 minutes the rest of the yr and hopefully getting him ineleigble for the conf tourny would that be enough to get him to leave after 4 instead of 5?

From the Player's Guide:

One more thing to cover before moving on is recruits that are listed as ineligible.

  • In DIII, this means nothing, as DIII recruits need only to have a 2.0 GPA to be eligible.
  • In DII, this means that the player will sit out his first year as a non-qualifier. He will be listed on your roster, and take up a scholarship, but he will not be allowed to practice with the team. After this season, the recruit will have 4 years of eligibility remaining.
  • The situation is the same in DI, with one exception. The player will receive his 4th year of eligibility only if he has achieved a 2.7 cumulative GPA going into his 4th eligible year.

So, at Ole Miss, you might be lucky and keep him eligible, but with a sub-2.7 GPA, and he'll leave.

For D2, can you take an ineligible in Year 1, then redshirt him Year 2, then still have 4 years left with him?

You can't redshirt an ineligible.

that player has now went against my wishes and got himself to a 2.7 GPA halfway thru his SR season,  so I will definilty be able to confirm or deny the "going into his senior season" theory.

It's reaching the 2.7 by the 4th year of eligibility, NOT his 4th year of school..  That would be the start of his 5th year.  Did you play him this year or plant him on the bench?

I was hoping for the recruiting money,  as I have no open schollies this yr.  so if I pulled it I would only have tourney money to sign a better player
