Size should play a role in winning games Topic

I just feel it should definitely be part of the equation. Height plays a very big role in real life so why not here?

I asked the same question when i first started and the response I got was, height is factored in the players ratings.  I agree height should play a bigger part, but with the current engine it doesn't.

This is from the developer's chat in November 2007:

Are a player's height and weight at all factored into the game or are they strictly cosmetic for the roster sheet? (mulder613 - Hall of Famer - 2:00 PM)

Cosmetic. Height and weight are (for the most part) reflected in their ratings but they can have impact, e.g. if my PF grows 2 inches from season to season, you'll most likely see corresponding increases to rebounding and shot blocking.

In regards to athleticism, does finishing around the basket translate to dunking? Does height matter at all when it comes to dunking or is it just athleticism? (njh144 - Hall of Famer - 2:02 PM)

Yes, both dunking and just finishing in traffic.

I think hieght should be factored in when you have lets say a 7'0 center being guarded by a 5'8 point guard, it is a total mismatch, but the game engine won't make that a factor at all. Height is a HUGE part of basketball and in order to make this game realistic it should be a factor.

Excuse a dumb question from a newbie, please, but how do I get my 7'0 center to be guarded by a 5'8 point guard?

Other than repeating "height is factored into the player's ratings" over and over, Im not sure how much more we can dumb down the answer.

I think I understand what people are trying to say.

They think that height isn't a factor enough than just being incorporated into ratings

they probably want a 7'0 C with 95 reb to dominate  a 6'7 C with 95 reb on the boards and defensively due to the 5 inch gap.

and not just have 7'0 players to be more likely to have 90+ reb/sb compared to the # of 6'7 players with 90+ reb/sb

By that logic, a player like Manute Bol should of been the most dominant player in the history of the NBA but he wasn't even a good rebounder.

It was a exaggerated example, but you would pull that off by putting the center at the point guard slot. A more realistic example would be I had a 6'8 power porward that had about 70 in Speed, Peremeter, Ball handling, and passing, I could have put him at the point and if height was factored in like in real life (imagine Nate Robinson trying to guard Lebron) he would have been dominant at D2/D3 can't remember which he was probably D2.

im not agreeing with what they are seeing, but I figured it was something they are more or less trying to say

Charles Barkley is one of the best rebounders of all time. He was 6-6. Dennis Rodman was 6-7 and rebounded even better than Barkley.

In the Bol example, he has terrible ATH.. But Rodman would be great at both ATH and REB. No doubt that Rodman out rebounds Bol every time.

tall players are MORE LIKELY to have better rebounding skills, nobody is saying they always will or always should.
