Fast Paced Offense Topic

I currently run a triangle offense right now I ran normal pace and am contemplating switching to fast paced. I thought it was a bad idea because of my athleticism but looking at other D3 colleges i think it might be a good idea. Im pretty high on durability and speed. Heres my team, any thoughts? https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=7803

Don't look at it as switching to a fast pace offense. Pace should be taken on a game by game basis. If you are better then the other team, play faster. If you are worse play slower to limit possessions.

My understanding was that if you have more depth than play faster. If you bench is weaker than play slower.

Not necessarily hey I'm better so lets play faster. Some of my best teams had a legit first 5 but a young bench so I would play slow to increase the minutes for the studs.

Yeah, the notion of "I'm better so play faster" isn't always correct. It's definitely more based on ath/spd/def/stamina and depth.

I run uptempo against better teams if they don't have the same depth my team has or if I know their talented players have lower stamina and I can literally run their guys off the court with my higher stamina players.

Your comment on Durability....ignore it. You need to be looking only at Stamina. If you are going to run uptempo, then your team should have better Stamina and depth (better/deeper bench). Run normal tempo, your team won't be better than your opponents later. Also...Your team has 9 juniors and 2 seniors. Were I you, I would practice triangle & m2m each at 24 or 25 minutes. Your team will then have the advantage on your opponents in terms of team IQ. That will win you games.

A hint: If Stephen Davis' passing rating is blue (or recently turn black from blue), start him at the point and have Reynolds come off the bench. The main reason for that is that a m2m team should be starting no one with DEF ratings lower than 40 at D3. Except against zone teams, I would have Reynolds 1st off the bench at both guard positions.

I would suggest the following depth chart: C - Youngberg/Craft/Turner; PF - Simon/Craft/Turner; SF - Cole/Willbanks; SG - Howland/Smith/Reynolds; PG - Davis/Reynolds. You can still redshirt Militello or Smith. I suggest trying Militello first. As long as he doesn't drop below 20 WE, then I'd leave it on him. Below that, take it off and RS Smith. Just take them both entirely out of your Depth Chart until you've figured out which on to RS. If you stay at Juniata, that will help.

I can barley read some of your advice to a new guy.. "Were I you," "Just take them both entirely out of your Depth Chart until you've figured out which on to RS".

Everyone makes mistakes so i'm giviing you benifit of the doubt here. I have to do some more research on you and I think this is the first time this year you have giving advice.

I redshirted Militello waiting on his response. I'm the 8 point favorite tonight in my game against Hiram should I push the tempo tonight or leave it alone?

Its better to redshirt during recruiting, he won't like the fact you are redshirting him during the season. I don't know if this will hurt your reputation but it should hurt your rreputation. (My opiinion)

It does not hurt your reputation because you've broken no promise to the kid.

It MAY (but not always) cause the player to lose WE. This drop can be precipitous (a 70WE crashing into the teens) or it might be insignificant (from 70 to 64) in the bigger picture. Some players will accept it without incident, especially if they are buried behind several others at their listed position.

So if I break my promise of Victor Correl guarenteed starter, and guarenteed 20 mins that'll hurt my reputution? He averaged more than 20 mins his first game now all I need to play him is in 25 more games to average 560 minutes and i'll be good this season.

Yes because you have authority when it comes to writing clear sentences...? Both of those things are clear, I read through it with ease especially when you compare it to some of the things you have written. "Were I you" is clear but could be made better by saying "If I were you" but it still works. The second one is clear except for a missing e in one... I'm not sure where you were confused to the point of making a comment about it.

FYI, side note--I have never in my 5-6 years of playing HD--used the inform of redshirt button in recruiting. And I have successfully redshirted about 90% of the players I've wanted to redshirt.

To my awareness, it also has no effect on your reputation unless the player you redshirted transfers.

Yes if you break a promise it will hurt your reputation.

I would advise against giving 20 mins garunteed, it doesn't make that much of a difference between that and 15 mins, maybe a couple calls, and to carry out the promise is a lot harder, and hurts your team more.

You don't have to start him in every game, pretty sure it is 80% of the games

You can't redshirt during the season unless he hasn't played a single minute.

I don't think there is a difference between Redshirting in recruiting and Redshirting during exhibition games or even Redshirting in the regular season, I have always redshirted during exhibition and it has always worked. If you are Redshirting during recruiting you are Redshirting a uperclassmen which does not work very often in my experience.

And just so you know his expectation is to play a total of 520 minutes during the regular season (26 games x 20 mpg). I've seen coaches mistakenly bench a kid with a few games to go because through the first 22 games they were averaging exactly 20mpg and thought by benching a guy they'd keep him at 20mpg. In other words, the expectation is a total of 520 minutes and not just 20mpg.

80% of the games? I think there is 27 games if your 1 and done in conference tournament and no National Tourney games. You haven't looked at my depth chart enough to come close to that evaulation. Where 20 mins a game isn't reasonable for a player who is going to start his junior senior year and a division 2 caliber player.
