D2 recruiting D3 Topic

What are the thoughts on this? I am talking about D2 teams who actively pursue D3 players. No prestige issues involved.

Every once in a while there is bound to be a good player with loads of potential who slips through the cracks, but you're never going to win anything by making a habit of this.

I just had a D3 senior transfer that I was going to get, get picked up by a D1 team, the dude was basically garbage, like a 40 DE, 30 Ath, 50 REB, only thing good about him was a 79 LP, but still kinda ruined me. Getting him would have fixed my class issue (hence my earlier post about Redshirting blah blah blah)

In this case the same D2 team jumped on two players that were considering me solo up to that point.

The best D3 players are mediocre D2 players that drop down or pull down, and a Elite D2 team is made up of mostly D1 players and top D2 players, so a elite D2 team wouldn't use D3 players. At lower levels of D2 it might be acceptable.

Yeah, exactly. That is why I was very shocked to see it. I expect this to happen in a pull down event. I personally haven't had a D2 team ever come on a D3 guy I was trying to get.

A dude in my old conference North American athletic conference in D2 Knight ****** a bunch of coaches off by recruiting D3 players regularly, funny thing was he never won the battles, he always ended up with like 3 walk ons but he did run zone. He was really bad, usually like 300+ RPI. So not a good coach

that's because they're not enough transfers so D1 schools drop down to pick up upperclassmen to keep carryover instead of taking walkons.

Ah so there was a method to the madness. Still ****** me off though

I've taken 1-year D3-listed players at a solid D2 team before. Class balance... or, more honestly, "Oh, ****, I biffed this recruiting season. Let's reset for next season".

I get taking 1 year guys or good juco' but taking 4 year guys is a new one for me to see.

I'm assuming these are low prestige D2 schools in which case they are D2 recruits for them while they show up as D3 for you because of prestige. If its not that its just a sucky coach if its a 4 year player. they're very few and very rarely D3 players worth taking at D2 unless they appear at D2 for the D2 school again the most likely case

B prestige for me. Guy on 2 is C, both players under 430 overall.

This honestly doesn't even make sense. The gaps in accessible talent and reasonable expectations across the D2 prestige spectrum are not all that big. If a player is a reasonable recruit for a lower-prestige D2 school whose D2 list he shows up on, he's probably also a decent recruit for a higher-prestige D2 team who sees him on their D3 list. I've had some D3 recruits in recent seasons who have turned into very good players, who would be very good D2 players.

I always check the D3 players near my d2 schools. It isn't often but sometimes there are players I recruit who show up on my d3 search.

Also, the same player may show up on the D2 search for the D2 team AND the D3 search for a D3 team.
