D3 recruiting D2 Topic

I don't like how D3 teams recruiting D2 players can't sign a player until the 2nd cycle. D3 players are not good enough for any top level D3 team, and since they have to wait until the 2nd cycle to sign a D2 player, and the last day to sign a D1 player, we are left with a waiting game, we have to fend off other players for 5 days to get the player that we want. If we lose a battle, it will be too late to find someone else. It makes recruiting so much more annoying for us D3 players.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but I also like that it's more difficult for D3 schools to pull down. I think the floor for D2 and D1 recruits needs to be raised, and the D3 ceiling lowered. Aside from the rare high potential guy, D3 recruits seem to be dead weight in the recruit pool.

Are you casting a wide enough net in scouting? Are you reacting quickly enough to situations that are clearly losing situations? Are you identifying players that likely won't be targeted by D2 programs? [Edit: Mainly D2 HUMAN programs]

Because I haven't felt enough resistance as a D3 player going after D2 talent to make me feel like anything less than a kid in a candy store or shooting fish in a barrel. Going after a D1 players as a D3 was always going to be a tough prospect and it SHOULD be a high-risk/reward situation -- you're reaching up two divisions, after all. If you want that to be an easy task you're basically saying you want a game with no degree of difficulty whatsoever when it coms to recruiting. At that point, just give everyone the menu and we'll all order ala carte.

I'm having no problems getting really good D2 players at D3. And I think you can still get D3 guys that are decent and can help you win. Maybe not a title but you can do okay. TJ is running an experiment right now recruiting just D3 players.

but regardless of that, I totally and 100% disagree that it should be easier. This was debated ad nauseum in Beta when D3 teams were getting stud players left and right. Then seble created Spuds Red Light and it was much better. Otherwise, whats the point?

So if you don't want the risk of recruiting D2 or D1 guys then just go for D3 guys. Everyone is playing by the same rules.

edit- totally agree rednu. How easy do we want to make recruiting?

As a D3 coach, I do NOT believe that Recruiting for D3 programs should be made any easier than it is already! At this point, I think they have struck a balance that most coaches (apart from those who have EE concerns) can accept.

Who said anything about D1 coaches? Great to see you haven't gotten off the soap box for that same old story.

I think the waiting until the second cycle is a good thing. It keeps the top D3 schools from loading up on D2 players right away. Also for D2 schools who lose out on D1 recruits it leaves them some option to fill out a roster. Without that limit every D2 team will have to run the slowdown and no one will want to be in D2. I think the "red light" is a fair compromise to keep coaches at all levels competitive without totally blocking drop downs.

If you want better players keep moving up until you reach D1 and then you can work on getting the best players. Unless you have a personal reason (alma mater, favorite team, mentor helping new players, etc) for staying at a lower level, advancing up should be the main way to get the best players.

To use a gaming analogy: Even in video games you can't get the best weapons, etc. if you never leave the first level. Players are the weapons of this game. You don't get nukes or 5 star players right away on level 1 or D3....

I hate it honestly but completely understand it. If you are a d3 school going after d1 and d2 players then you are always running a risk of losing a player to a higher level school and rightfully so. Waiting for the last day of recruiting as a d3 coach is highly stressful and sometimes rewarding.

My problem is, there are not any D3 players that are up to the caliber of my team. There may be 1 or 2 hidden gems with high potential across the country, but to find that person would require an extreme amount of money. They need to raise the bar a little to what a D3 player is at least, because no good D3 team can use these D3 players.

Maybe they can make the red light last for a shorter period of time by like a day just to give the players a little more time.

Right now im experiencing recruiting 4 players but not being able to sign any of them. That is just not fun to do at all. I don't want the game to be easier for D3 players, but rather I want it to be less frustrating. Making it easier might be the effect, but not where this request is coming from.

All D3 schools are in the same boat.

Honestly I just think you haven't figured out how to scout yet. Once you do you will see its pretty easy to get very solid talent at D3.

sitemail me and I'll help you out. You'll be fine.
