Here's the schedule for Smith.
Thursday 8/3 2:00 AM Conference tournament ends
11:59 PM Non-conference game scheduling ends
Friday 8/4 2:00 AM Postseason tournaments start
Wednesday 8/9 2:00 AM Postseason tournaments end
11:59 PM Deadline to renew teams
11:59 PM Player redshirt deadline
Thursday 8/10 3:00 AM Job applications start
Friday 8/11 2:00 AM Job acceptances start
Saturday 8/12 11:59 PM Job change period ends
Sunday 8/13 2:00 AM Player rescind scholarship start
8:00 AM Recruiting period 2 starts
5:00 PM Recruiting period 2 Attention Points processing starts

Some users will have no reason to check in for 10 days. Near the middle of those 10 days is the job renew deadline. I imagine there are users who lose in round 1 of the CT, think they'll check back in to renew in 4-5 days and simply forget because THERE IS NO REASON TO CHECK IN. More likely to happen with single team users but, it seems to me, there is a decent chance this happens. If you're on auto-renew, maybe you miss a few cycles of recruiting. Or, if you're on auto-renew and know when recruiting starts, you have NO REASON TO CHECK IN for 10+ days.

Most of us believe something should be done. But what?

Yes, nothing is changing. But, maybe in 2020, someone at WifS will say "Too much downtime. What to do?" and scour the last 10 years of the forums.

allowing exhibition games would require significant coding. simply chopping a dead day from job change and from the new sign-ups won't. do both of those things. bang. you just saved 2 days. more $ for WIS, less dead time for us. everyone wins.

I think you can cut two days, job one less day, when it rollover, get to exhib the same day at 18h.

I don't think that adding exhibition games "would require significant coding changes". The code is already there for scheduling and playing them at another time earlier in the season. It might just be a something as simple as plugging that same code into the latter period of the season.

While most of us would benefit from shortening the job change and new sign-up periods, there would still be a few squeaky wheels who would ***** and moan about losing opportunities to apply because the time span has been shortened, followed by "I'm playing out my credits and leaving" that seems to be a common theme in these forums.

The problem is Recruiting Period 2 pointlessly adding an additional three days.

I voted for the exhibition games. That could also serve as a learning period. Give that 5-22 1st year player another 5-6 games to experiment with settings/line-ups.

I do agree with tec that it shouldn't require SIGNIFICANT code change. If you have a game(tourney) for 8/5, you can't schedule a game for 8/5. However, I could see how 8/6 could be problematic. On 8/4, you don't have an 8/6 game yet. Could be a massive clusterfuck if a flawed program lets you schedule an exhibition on 8/6 then you win your tourney game on 8/5.

RS2 is required because of the way EE is set up. If post-season success wasn't a factor in EE, you could cut it out and just add a day or two, in-season, to RS1.

Eliminate the 2nd recruiting period. It's pointless. Just have players declare earlier for the draft and give the affected teams the APs and other resources for losing players. Should be a simple fix while killing two birds with one stone. Coaches that change jobs still get to recruit later that season that they paid for. Not like they were getting any decent players in that second recruiting period.

Simple fix. You can't schedule exhibitions during the CT, period. And you cannot schedule exhibitions if/while your team is still playing in either the NT or the PI. If you don't make one of those tournaments, or once you are eliminated, you're good to go.

Exhibition against Sims or inter squad games. No improvement, only for user to remain engaged to WIS.

Inter squad would require big programming changes.

I don't see a problem with post-season human/human exhibitions. Why do you think it should be only against SIMAI?

Agree, there should be no player improvement. "For entertainment purposes only".

they won't even fix the considering list bug, so there's no way they are going to do this exhibition stuff which would require some effort and multiple changes on different parts of the site/game. cutting a single day or even two days is something i could actually see happening since it would actually make money for WIS and require only the slightest code update.

Do you have a programming background?

I do. And while I'm not familiar with the actual WIS software coding practices, I can say that the exhibition changes likely would not be as onerous as you seem to be implying.

The point is that they haven't even updated the national champions page in 12 seasons and counting, something which should require no coding, so any coding at all is very unlikely to happen.
