My goal in Tark is to coach at a Big 6 school. Here is my resume:
https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/CoachProfile/Default.aspx?uid=862408&wid=8

9 Seasons, 9 NT wins, and a recent Final Four. With this resume, the best jobs I'm eligible for are Mid Majors in the C/C- range, which seems about right. My question is what would be the quicker route to a Big 6 job. Stick at D2 for a few more seasons or jump to a low/mid major and try to build up prestige until I can get a Big 6 job?

My D2 team should be good, probably around Sweet 16 level and maybe contending for another FF, but I don't know if a few more seasons of that at D2 will even get me on the radar of Big 6 teams, so maybe it's better to just go to D1 and try to move up from there. The draw back to that is probably having to endure a couple bad seasons while rebuilding the D1 team. Any thoughts from those who have made the climb?

Asking for a couple clarifications that might help you get better answers...

Are the C & C- schools you're eligible for baselined at that level, or currently at that level?

Also, litmus testing, are you eligible for the Texas Tech job? It's the only Step Backwards B6 on my current list of options... baseline B, which is attractive, but it looks like a brutal conference to try to build in. (And I have no intention of leaving the WCC - you could join us!)

Win a couple championships at DII! This coach in my conference jumped from DII straight to UConn....never seen such a jump before until he did it.

I made the jump from D2 to D1 big six, I can do it on my two D2 teams, but if I was you, I would get a team I feel confident I can build up, not necessarily take a big six job where competition will make it a nightmare. MWC is a nice place to start until you land the team you want

KC - All of the C/C+ schools I'm eligible for are D baseline. I'm qualified for a few MAC and MVC and schools, which are C baseline (but currently D/D+). Not qualified for anything Big 6, including Texas Tech which is currently D+.

As another point of reference, I only have 4 Longshot jobs: Santa Clara, Gardner-Webb, Ball State, and Pacific.

That's an impressive resume at Florida Tech! I can understand how he was eligible for some Big 6, but I wouldn't have guessed UConn being A+ baseline was even possible from D2.

This is the main reason I'm tempted to stay at D2. It's probably my best shot at getting a championship and my current team should be strong for the next few seasons. I just don't want to do it if a few more good D2 seasons doesn't get me any closer to a Big 6 job.

I'm wondering if there is a hard coded requirement of somewhere around 12 seasons experience to land a Big 6 gig? That's about when the D range Big 6 teams started appearing for me in Phelan, but I had a lot less post season success there.

I thought the Final Four in Tark D2 would be enough to get me qualified for a couple, but even the lowest current Big 6 gigs like D+ Texas Tech, say they want a more experienced coach.

In Rupp I jumped from Kentucky Wesleyan to Arizona (C+), and another coach in conference, getiguy, jumped from Missouri-St Louis to Kansas (B-)

Your resume is similar to mine and I jumped from Alabama, Huntsville to Alabama. The biggest difference is I only spent 1 year at D3 and you spent several. That may slow you down a bit

Thanks byeags, your resume is a great comparison. Yours also has 12 seasons vs. my 9 seasons, so sounds like if I put in a few more good D2 campaigns, some Big 6 options will open up.

Do you recall if you qualified for anything in Big 6 during prior seasons, or was Alabama your first available?

I don’t recall, but I’m sure I qualified for some mid-majors and low prestige schools like you are right now.

Currently my GVST team is qualified for all D1 jobs except for about baseline B+ and Higher. I’ve been qualified for big 6 teams for many seasons now, probably somewhere around 10-12, I don’t remember specifically. I think for you the quickest way to big 6 is by staying, as long as you think you will be regularly getting sweet 16 or farther. But, recruiting at low D1 is valuable experience for not screwing up your first big 6 gig. I went from D2, to Elon for about 4 seasons, to Hawaii, and then later on to Virginia Tech.

By going to Low/Mid-Major D1 you basically garuntee at least another 3-4 seasons until Big 6.

Thanks for the input Turtl. Your Knight resume is a good example of a quick climb to Low D1, then a short rebuild before getting a Big 6 team. Looks like that route took 11 seasons total. I'm on a similar path in Phelan, but sticking with the Low D1 team for now since it's a fun conference.

I agree that the Low/Mid route will probably add 3-4 more seasons from my current spot in Tark, especially taking over a C- or worse team. Should be a similar time frame from D2, but with the chance to make some NT runs in the mean time.

Updating my D1 job prospects in Tark after Season 134. I now have 10 seasons, and added another NT win.

My top qualified job as far as prestige was C+ Utah State
3 Long Shots: C/C+ Teams from the Big West, WCC and A10
Qualified for almost all low/mid major openings at C or below with a few exceptions from the A10, MVC and Horizon conferences
Not qualified for anything Big 6 - even D+ Texas Tech, Iowa State or Hawaii

In WNMU, 13 nts in a row, qualify for everything B+ and down.
