Hard to say, without seeing everything that Arizona was doing during recruiting. He was in at least 2 in state battles. I'm thinking the fact that he could only put you to high might suggest he was out of cash and couldn't use any HV or CVs, but again hard to say, because I need to see if he was in any other battles. It probably costs what $5,000 for each battle he was in where he ended up with the recruit. Or maybe he just couldn't commit to giving the player a start and 25 minutes. There are a lot of variables in play, so can't really say. I'd have to look at the whole picture.

I would have done the same thing you did, but I also don't have as much experience or success as Benis. I lean towards being conservative with things like that when I have a lot of openings after a few awful seasons with 2+ walk-ons in my first few seasons in D1.

He got a pretty good SG so I'm not sure Jones and his WE were high priority. But it's less about what he was doing and more what I did.

You've said D shouldn't battle A. And, while I gave you **** for it because I think you said it selfishly, you're largely right. I did it in the only way I thought was feasible. And only because AZ wasn't there early. Commit enough resources to hopefully stay in it while saving/using other resources for other options.

Me, at Arizona, was a B- last season. The bump to A- came a couple days ago after the tourney ended.

Jones was a good call for Asheville as he was my 5th or 6th priority. I offered the schollie in the fifth cycle (5pm day 2). Listed at Very High until the initial signing window opened which was when Asheville put in more. I put in my CV and 3 home visits to get back to Very High. I didn't anticipate a Whenever signing just a couple cycles into the signing window. I had three higher rated guys with Early preference and they were my focus at the time.

If my three battles hadn't been all over Early guys, I may have focused on Jones as he would have probably stepped in to a 20 minutes per game role.
In that scenario, any money put into Jones by Asheville would have been wasted as I easily had available resources for the remaining 13 of the 20 HV's I hadn't used.

If MikeT and Asheville looked into other recruiting battles and saw I was contesting multiple Early guys, then it was a great move. If he spent without looking at other top 100's for Arizona's name, then it was more blind luck.

Yeah, I knew you were in battles. I recall two. As I've said, you could have swatted me away at any time had you chosen to. That's one reason I wasn't all in. The other was I didn't want a "nothing" class. When you put me back at mod on the 11 PM cycle, I figured you'd given up on one of the other battles, or lost, and came back to Jones. So I threw a cursory HV at him and added 10 AP just in case you weren't bothering to check in or thought you'd ran me off.

You played it fine. If you were comfortable with walkons and players you didn’t have to battle for in all your other slots, you’d have been justified in taking an all-in shot, too, as long as you could reasonably assume that the kid was not a high priority for the higher prestige school. I mean really, it’s best not to be too predictable in how you play these battles anyway.

Truth is, I spent so much time looking at your team, trying to figure out your priorities, what you were trying to do and who you were recruiting, it sort of felt like cheating. Like we have too much access to the other guy but I guess that's pretty realistic. CBB coaches don't make "surprise" signings. Everyone knows who everyone else is after.

I'll add that the fact that you'd give him 20m per game on your team makes me feel even better about getting him. He'll set records at UNC-A.

You played it very well Mike. Seriously.

Just wait until you lose 3-4 rolls in a row.

I lost 6 in a row for a PG in Smith. Ruined a final four team for a couple of seasons. Remember all the complaining and crying I did?

Of course you don't. Because I didn't complain or cry. I could have done better.

You mentioned it at least 5 times. Almost as many times as you have mentioned your fluke FF run.

Sounded like complaining to me.

I mentioned it after I was being given **** for a total collapse and when you insisted that I didn't have to have a total collapse if I'd just avoided battling. Get the circumstances right.

I didn't complain about losing a dice roll. Well, I did, but I was mocking the chronic complainers. Not sure I started a thread but I do recall saying "I lost as a favorite. How long and loud should I complain?"

What ruined your team was 49 average ATH...

I've made a DI Sweet 16 with 1 player over 68 PA and 1 player with 2 or more assists per game IN A MOTION.
