Future Stars Scouting Service vs. Camps Topic

Here's an example that illustrates my question:

I have purchased Future Stars Scouting Service (FSS) for the entire SW Region of the country for D1 and D2. I have also booked the camps that cover those areas and am hosting my own camp for the max 200 players.

Are the players covered under FSS also the same players I will see during the camps OR do the camps allow me to see players not covered under FSS?

Thanks!

It is my understanding that FSS includes all recruits, by state, from each level.

The first one. All recruits are covered by FSS.

You will see some of the same players with your camp that are covered with FSS, but the camp will increase their level by 2. I usually do the Camp in the first cycle, then FSS, then use the assistant to scout closest to my school. You can easily get every player within 200-400 miles of your school to level 4 this way, depending on what part of the country you are in and how many recruits are near you.

public camps are the worst

Yup. I think camps are a waste of money.

Why are public camps the worst? I haven't used them, just wondering what makes them bad. Always trying to refine my tactics.

Because you're seeing the exact same recruits as everyone else who pays for that camp. So the top talent at the camp is now on the radar screen of pretty much every coach that attended -- you've just paid money to locate a battle magnet that you'll now have to pay through the nose with recruiting dollars to get into a horserace situation to sign probably. Add to it that, if you're a D1 coach, you're paying some of that camp fee on D2 players at the Elite camps, the bulk/all of whom you probably don't want.

After the first season of beta I've never done anything but a private camp.

One reason is because every coach that uses them is fighting for the exact same players. So the best players in the camp will have major competition. Where as with your private camp, certain kids may not be discovered, or scouted to the higher levels by as many coaches.

And personally, i prefer to aim for one division only. I'm not sure there's strategy for this. But it simplifies, say, using the FSS. By not having to switch between division one and division two, and trying to remember which division "player x" was in from that camp. Just eases my mind to focus on 1 division.

Beat me to it

Gotcha, that makes sense, thanks for the reply.

I don't agree. If your don't use the public camp how do you know which players were exposed there. More information > less information. Public camp is less expense than assistant scouting trips.

I don’t care about players who were exposed there. If you wanna fight over them, good for you. I don’t know about D1, but as D2 and especially my D3, I’d rather use the FSS then Assistant Scouting trip in my favorite select states so that I can find gems that my conference and fellow division competition hopefully haven’t uncovered.

Well if you don’t do the public camps, you don’t know which players were exposed there. But that’s not the point. I actually thought they were equal in price per recruit, but I definitely could be wrong. But I’m not arguing assistant coach/public camp. I guess my argument would be described best as if EVERY coach did a public camp, every coach sees the same recruits. If EVERY coach does their private camp, it’s not going to be ALL the same kids at each schools camp. (Obviously coaches have different methods so Its a stretch to say “every”, but I’m using it to prove my point)

As far as more>less. Of course. But there are budgets. And the idea is to do the best you can with your budget. And I don’t feel like running a public camp to “see which players were exposed there” is a great strategy. To each his own. I will say there is no “wrong” way. But some are better than others.

If I wanted a list of “every player that I WILL NEVER consider” then I’d choose a public camp.
