While we're talking about this, I wanted to point out something I always thought was odd.

When you have a C with 80/10 ATH/SPD, he's likely a great player. And it makes sense. You can picture that. Maybe Dwight Howard type of player (when he was still good!)

But when I see players with like 31 orange ATH and 77 blue SPD in my scouting database, that just seems odd. What kind of player that has 97 SPD is only going to have a 35 ATH? That's extremely low.

Any player suggestions for a rating like that? As in, a real life comparison to a 35/97 ATH/SPD guy?

Isaiah Thomas maybe? I've always thought part of Athleticism was similar in some ways to size/wingspan. His lack of size hurts his ability to play defense and finish inside.

I think of athleticism as ability to elevate and the flexibility to contort your body in ways needed to get open or get a shot off in traffic. Also ability to stop on a dime and change directions are seen in athleticism.

I have thought of speed as an explosive first step and straight line speed.

Guys with high speed and low athleticism might be stars in college but can't cut it in the NBA. Tyus Edney or other guards that go end to end fast but can't get free on their own in the half court would be examples of a 35 Ath 97 speed guy IMO.

Steve Nash

I remember Bill Raftery once saying of A.J. Guyton, "He has explosive spurtability!" I like to think he was referring to his Ath/Spd combo, and not something else.

That speed skater in Mighty Ducks that had trouble stopping.

Ty Lawson is/was lightning quick but is a below the rim player and almost appears chubby at times. I think he fits the parameters.

I remember reading about the sprinter Michael Johnson (of gold Nike shoes fame). He said that he was not a good athlete and not good at skill sports. All he could do was run. Probably a 20 ATH and 100 SPD.

Very chubby. I was trying to think of chubby players when I made this thread. Khalid El-Amin came to mind. But he wasn't fast. Mateen Cleaves came to mind but he was more athletic than 34. Lonzo Ball actually came to mind also, but he's not a 97 speed. I don't know what I'd rate him at in anything

But his dad told me his ATH/SPD was 100 and 100

Only 100/100, I don't believe it.

I don't have a real-life comparison for high SPD and low ATH. But when I think of ATH I think of a combination of coordination and explosiveness. Dominique Wilkins is my prototype for a player with 100 ATH. Among current players, the one guy off the top of my head who might have the 100/100 ATH/SPD combination is Russell Westbrook.

Allen Iverson was all speed. He was better than a 37 ath but it wasn’t THAT high.

he might have been a 37 def though.....

I initially thought of Iverson slso but thought his ATH might be a 45. That's why I dug around for Tyus Edney.

I loved watching AI dart past everyone in the fullcourt. Just imagine what he would have done in his prime in an offense like Paul Westhead's!
