Recruiting Bully Topic

Just curious.... what do some of you do when you complete your class signings, and have resources left over.... Do you wrap things up and call it a day? Or do some of you continue recruiting, likely picking on lower division coaches, with the intent to A) maybe find a better option and cut one of your current players? Or B) be a jerk and make it harder and more difficult for the lower division schools to sign their target?

I just wrap it up and move on. But then thats just me. I would fully expect that there are some out there that continue to recruit with their only intention being to disrupt another coaches prospects. But, I can't imagine anyone actually admitting they do it.

I know some do! That's why I asked! I'll admit that I started to do that one time. And after one cycle, i felt slimy and i withdrew the scholarship offer.

I believe it is a written rule that you aren't allowed to do that.

Under Fair Play Guidelines:
  • Specifically targeting another coach is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, focusing on recruits a particular coach is pursuing in order to steal them or force the coach to overspend.

Depends on my team and what’s out there, but yeah I will keep recruiting. It isn’t about disruption, especially not of lower division schools. That doesn’t have any benefit. There are some instances where it’s only a few lower division human coaches on a guy. I might put resources into him if I might think about him in case of EE, or maybe to have a juco player on the line as a backup for next year. Sometimes those teams just move on, and he goes juco. Usually someone ends up figuring it out and offering a scholarship. You have the resources, may as well use them.

He's not talking about targeting a specific coach.

A few times I have thought to be finished then I have a change of heart, usually when I have 2+ walk-ons and I can afford to RS. I don't think it's slimey, it's recruiting.

This was what I was responding to from topdogg's post.

If a D-1 team needs to drop down to grab a player, that shouldn't be an issue.

Has this ever been enforced in the history of this game? Asking for a friend. Haha.

Maybe found guilty if this rule is taken extremely liberally by a Liberal who knows I am a Christian. Conservatives and moderates would find me innocent. Here is why:

Always remove all my AP and remove schollies offered after I get mine filled with one exception: the first two seasons of a D1 rebuild that is stocked with Sim recruited players.

In that case I might scout far and wide with my remaining budget to level 1-2. Then narrow it down to positions I want. Then I might check the coaches overall record. More wins AND titles than me- I could come after your player because you obviously know what you are doing and the guy is likely decent or great.

Coaches who have less wins and titles than me get a pass after my schollies are filled.

If in legitimate pursuit of a recruit, there is no amount of money you can FORCE another Coach to spend. That rule under fair play is reference to someone spending money without an actual interest in a recruit, and really doesn't have the same weight as it did in 2.0.

I think the OP is generally within bounds of FPG, ie I don’t think it’s a jerk move when done for the sake of competitiveness rather than harassment. Would probably take a bit of a pattern to prove actual harassment, which is the point of the guideline, IMO. Trying to get on the considering list to possibly increase what a competitor may have to invest isn’t harassment. Targeting a coach at a lower school in a pattern of this type of behavior (especially if there is no intent to sign the player/s) probably is against FPG, and is especially problematic in that it can also be a sign of collusion.

dont forget coaches who get new jobs & recruit in period 2..they s/b able to recruit any player still available in that period

If there's an ineligible player out there that appeared worth it, I might throw remaining effort/resources at the kid in the hope he chose to go JUCO rather than enroll with whomever signs him. That way I have some residual effort carrying over when the kid comes back as a JUCO.

What would a recruiting bully be in real life?
