Offer Scholarship Deadline? Topic

Does anyone know at what point you are no longer able to offer a scholarship to a redshirt after a season? Can you wait until the very end of RS2, or do you have to offer before that?

I'm confused. Redshirt players already have scholarships. Do you mean walk-ons or jucos?

Based on conference chat discussions, I think gdog is talking about a walkon. For walkons, the FAQ says “...once recruiting begins and before job offers are extended to coaches at the end of the season, you can offer a scholarship to a walk-on. If you do not offer a walkon a scholarship - he will not be on your roster for the next season.”

This may be an outdated, pre-3.0 answer. I’m not clear on how the timeline matches up currently. If you still have the option to offer, I think that answers the question. My suspicion is that you will not be able to offer the scholarship after the second session has started, but I’m not sure on that.

Thanks shoe3, I did mean walk-on. Job acceptances have started, and as of now I could still offer. My guess is that it'll go away when the switch is made when player rescind scholarship starts?

very very rarely a good idea to give a schollie to a walkon - considering not only his skillz but also the loss of recruiting resources the following season

i suspect that when the world rolls over, when the seniors leave and the freshman become sophmores, that this is when the walkons leave. it seems like the appropriate time. i kind of think you can offer scholarships up until that happens, but i definitely can't swear to it - i could definitely see it cutting off a bit earlier for weird, scheduling and/or nonsense based reasons. i would think you definitely cannot do it in session 2, after the world has rolled.

Agree that it is rarely a good idea, which is why I have never even considered it before, but I got lucky with an uncommonly decent one. And I think I am going to pass, but I might regret it depending on how RS2 goes.

For anyone who is interested, you can in fact offer a scholarship during RS2, at least up until the rescind scholarship deadline. And given how disastrous my last two recruiting seasons have been, I actually ended up making the offer.

Another fun fact - it made his WE jump to 100.

Can you send the player?

I have the option to rescind. Is that what you were asking?

I think he was asking for you to share the players attributes so the community can see how good of a walk on he was/is

Frederick Gard on his Stanford team in Smith.

Edit: I just did a quick forum search because it surprised me to see. I think Jaroslav Shiminski on the same team has one of the highest single season growths in 3.0 with 134 points of improvement. Very impressive!

Confirming it is Gard. He has about 100 points of improvement left.
