I was hoping for some help understanding a few aspects of the sim. I'm currently in the playoffs on a 24 team 1954/1979 progressive league that uses DH.
1. Pinch Hitting
Every game I'd like to pinch hit for my starting 2B with a bench bat, then put in the backup 2B to finish the game on defense. Ideally I'd like for this to happen late in the game around 7-9th inning. Here are my settings and relevant players:
Starting 2B (batting 9th): 1979 Joe Morgan 542 PA .250/.379/.376 9 HR, B/D+ at 2B, bats left
Bench: 2020 Grady Lampton, AAA 2B with B/C+ defense, bats switch
Bench: 1979 Oscar Gamble 327 PA, .358/.456/.609 19 HR, C-/D+ at OF, bats left
On Team Managerial Style, pinch hitting set to '5 - very aggressive'
On Player Hierarchies - Defensive Replacements Joe Morgan is starting 2B and Grady Lampton is backup
On Player Hierarchies - Pinch Hitting Oscar Gamble is set to the top spot for pinch hitter selections for all 6 categories
On Advanced Settings the PH column is checked for Joe Morgan (he is the only player checked)
On Advanced Settings, in the PH column there's a check box to toggle whether all players can PH or not. This is unchecked. However, if I check it, then uncheck everyone but Joe Morgan and save it, it switches to unchecked, but Joe Morgan remains checked.
NLDS Game 1, Bot 8th, leading 5-3, 2 runners on, 1 out : Joe Morgan flies out to left
NLDS Game 3, Top 7th, leading 9-4, no runners on, 2 out: Joe Morgan pops out to first
Why isn't Gamble pinch hitting for Morgan here? Any settings I am missing?
2. Pinch Running
I have 2 quality catchers who are slow, so I'd like to pinch run if given the chance.
Starting C: 1979 Gene Tenace 586 PA .263/.403/.445 20 HR, A+/C+/A+ at C, 48 speed
Bench C: 1954 Walker Cooper 191 PA .310/.398/.532 7 HR, C-/C/A- at C, 42 speed
Bench: 1979 Miguel Dilone 137 PA .220/.267/.283 1 HR, C/D- at OF, 94 speed
On Team Managerial Style, pinch running set to '5 - very aggressive'
On Player Hierarchies - Defensive Replacements Gene Tenace is starting C and Walker Cooper is backup C
On Advanced Settings the PR column is checked for both Gene Tenace and Walker Cooper (all other players are unchecked)
On Advanced Settings, in the PR column there's a check box to toggle whether all players can PR or not. This is unchecked. However, if I check it, then uncheck everyone but Gene Tenace and Walker Cooper and save it, it switches to unchecked, but Tenace and Walker remain checked.
NLDS Game 1, bot 6th, leading 5-2 with no runners on, 1 out and Gene Tenace walks
Why wasn't Dilone put in to pinch run so I could steal, then after we are retired put Walker Cooper in for C defense?
3. Platoon Splits (lefty v lefty or lefty v righty)
I believe I've read that all players are equally adjusted, so that if you are facing a pitcher who throws the same side as you bat, you receive a 5% penalty? Or what is it?
Let's say we are facing a lefty starting and have 2 players to choose from (disregard defense and speed)
Lefty: 1979 Oscar Gamble 327 PA .358/.456/.609 19 HR
Righty: 1954 Joe Adcock 592 PA .308/.365/.520 23 HR
Gamble is clearly the better hitter. Even against a lefty pitcher, I would assume he would still be expected to outperform Adcock in a game. Obviously, if they had equal stats, Adcock would be expected to perform better against a lefty pitcher. So the question is exactly how much better does the lefty need to be before putting him in against a lefty starter (and let's pretend this starter will pitch the whole game)?
Thanks for the help
