Maybe you don't like the set up, maybe you don't like me, idk what it is, but for all the talking about wanting more information and wishing we had more data on this site, I gotta say I'm kinda disappointed that the current Testing Whatifsports league (TWISL) is having such a hard time filling.

Over a month the ad has been up, and we're currently just searching, hoping to get one more owner to make it a 16 team league.

Where's everyone at and why haven't you joined yet??

So you're more of a "give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and he'll become a better fisherman than you and you won't be able to catch anymore fish" kind of guy?

Are you trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

What's the Spin rate on the curve? Are we talking 2017 Garrett Cole or 2018?

its not baseball what you're doing

its database analysis

its monkeys using second derivative tools

baseball is monkeys using arms legs and bats balls & gloves

Seriously, leagues like this are some of my absolute favorites in all of WIS (disclaimer: I have run several of them myself). A well-designed league, like this one is, lets us learn a lot about how the game actually works. For example, in a recent league we learned pretty much conclusively (and contrary to what a lot of people think) that teams with low-K pitchers do NOT get more plus plays on defense than teams with high-K pitchers.

About 6 or 7 years ago, on my previous account, I was playing the NBA sim game a lot, it was fun, there were all sorts of possible strategies you could try to win or counter other strategies with. Then one owner, ashamael, started doing these 'tests' and posting the result of his 'studies' on the NBA sim engine and basically had everything down to a science. Ash was a great guy and he meant well, but what happened after that is that pretty much everybody started using the same strategy which totally killed any type of other options, and trust me I tried them all, determined to find a way to beat it, but to my complete dismay, none worked, the strategy he had come up with was just anihilating any other type options you could come up with. Up to that point I had always found various ways to win, had one of the best NBA owner record, but when I figured that the only option to beat it was to join it, the fun and challenge was gone, I stopped playing.
So basically, what bagchucker said.

The difference is that right now, people only play one way. They draft plenty of innings, deadballers, high avg, high xbh, don't spent $ on defense etc. The point of these tests is to 1) help understand how the sim works, not to game it, but to simply understand it and 2) to show that there's more than 1 way to beat bagchucker

See, I like doing the tests, not just to understand how it works, but to help improve it. This game has been improved significantly over the years as we've isolated ways to "game the system" and they've improved the game around it: Superman Long A, Fatigue Strategy, 1894/Normalization Pricing, Strike Year Proration Pricing, Deadball SB rates, Hitters Pitching, Pitchers as Hitters, etc... Each of these were fixed and the game improved because they were discovered and isolated. When Tom and Paul used to regularly share details of how the sim worked so we could make it better and we tested, tested, tested... that's been the heart of simbaseball for as long as I've been here... and I've been here for over 20 years... test and improve... Unless we just want to go back to Milacki throwing 800+ IP at full health for $1.1m? or $200k Nolan Ryan? There's more ways to win now than there ever has been and I'm fairly certain it's as a result of the testing and improvements that have been made to keep the game fun, fair, and realistic. Understanding how things work is what enabled that.

I generally like participating in test leagues because it advances our understanding of the sim engine. I looked passed this one because I am currently running too many teams now. In the spirit of getting this league launched for a bunch of good guys, I built a team this morning and entered it. I figure, what the heck is one more team to manage.
