Qhadow! My man! Preach son! We must be kindred souls, or maybe just smarter than everyone else! Can you press on missed shots? Yes you can. Does it work. Absolutely not! At least not at high level basketball. A D1 school; wait let me restate; ANY D1 school would crush any team they play if said team pressed from jump ball to final horn. I have asked for FCP to be removed as a base defense since day 1. No one presses 100% of the time. I mean have you ever been to a 2nd grade Upwards basketball game? Thats what it would look like! Teams run a base defense, be it m2m, any type of zone, or hybrid defenses and they press off makes or situationally. Mods have shot me down again and again and argue that some teams do run FCP on every play of every game. I have challenged them to show me 1 team that does it for 1 game; just 1 game; and has no other base 1/2 court defense, and I’ve yet to receive that example! But I will break the bad news to you now: they don’t care bc they don’t want to tick off coaches who currently run FCP so they won’t change it. So my best advice to you is start treating this as more of an arcade game and less a sim! Also we have WIS FCP Haters Support Group meetings on Wednesday’s at 7pm at Hooters. We have a few drinks, complain about the FCP BS, and never order wings. Only there for the terrible beer selection and “atmosphere”! We feel your pain.
I run a lot of press, but I could care less either way if they keep it or remove it AS IS. But what isn't a good idea is removing options. Gaining options is what we need. Keep in mind that our fake little sim players aren't literally running up and down the court like we picture in our minds. It's just weighted numbers against weighted number basically. If we go back to the thought of "this game has to be like real life in every way" then we got a ton of changes to make. That's another story.
I'd much rather have 3 defenses to choose from than 2. That's all it comes down to for me. It may be a bit unrealistic in theory, but it's not so far off the path like you are making it seem. If they could tweak the engine so it didn't set up the press after misses, then cool, it would be better. I wouldn't argue against that. But removing it surely isn't the answer. It's still part of basketball.
