Returning old coach has questions. Topic

Greetings HD'ers. Old time coach returning. I bailed when 2.0 came out, but I've returned after like 8 real life years. I've read the sticky and the thread about how to recruit.

I know this was mentioned in the thread, but I'm still not quite getting it. The question:

As a new coach, when can I cut players? And what screen is it? I am taking over an AI team and most of these players are dead weight.

Also, I heard you get the recruiting budget when you do so, is that true? Do you also get additional scouting budget? Or did I take over this 1 opening team, and I'm just going to have to show off my great coaching skills to bring 22 WE 490 Div2 players to a NT?

You can cut players when recruiting season 2 starts. And yes, you would get that extra scouting and recruiting money added to your budget if you did not personally sign those players. If you cut a player that you DID personally sign, you would not get the additional budget money.

When is season 2?

Go to Schedule -> World Schedule to view the specific time and date of the 2nd recruiting period. It's towards the end of the season after the job signings have taken place.

You can cut players if you go to Coaching -> Manage Roster

Just to clarify, there are 2 recruiting periods in each season. The 1st period happens towards the end of conference games. The 2nd happens after the postseason. The 2nd period is meant to give the coaches with new jobs a chance to sign recruits at their new school.

You will only get to cut and recruit Players in RS2 if you applied for a team during Job Change period. If you reserved a team earlier for next season, you will need to wait all the way to next offseason to get a RS2 and cut players. That trick of application during job change, is a trick that some returning Coaches miss on.

Welcome back. I remember you from the old days. I almost quit after version 3 came out. I've stuck around but haven't had great success.

I like a lot of things about 3.0 .. but the one thing I don't like is 2 recruiting sessions. But it is not too hard. One thing to remember is, if you are recruiting 1 level higher than your team (d2 on a d1 player, d3 on a d2 player), Early and End of Period 1 are your friend when YOU recruit in RS1. You cannot sign a recruit who is one level higher than your team in RS1. But you can sign them on the first turn of RS2, if they want to sign with you (they are on moderate in RS1 and no one else is at moderate) .. and if they wanted to sign in the early period (Early or End of Period 1). Don't waste time in RS2 trying to get a player open who is early or EP1 for another team .. moderate to a human that is at level or 1 level lower than the recruit, and has offered a scholarship. You will not be able to open up and off the guy before he signs.

So, in RS2, you want a list of good D1 players considering a D3 team (sorry D3 coaches :D). These guys can only sign on the last day of the Rs@. Or you want to try to open up and offer players with "End of Period 2" or "Late" or "Whenever". Whenever and Late are basically the same WRT RS2 .. they can sign at any time in RS2, but likely not the first couple of turns. "End of Period 2" means just that, they sign on the last day.

Your post is mostly on point but I have never seen a signing preference that is "End of Period 2". I don't think that one exists.
There is a signing preference for End of Period 1 though.

I'm going thru my first scouting now. It seems alright, we'll see how the recruiting goes. One thing I dislike already is that its "in season". Meaning the two teams I picked up, I'm carrying dead weight for an entire season knowing I'm going to cut them. At least the earlier "dead weight" seasons, I have usually recruited 3-6 guys myself, so at least they're already growing to what I want in a team.

With this method, I'm essentially paying two entire seasons for the two teams full of useless players. This doesn't seem very newbie friendly at all.

You're correct .. but there should be one of those (end of EP2) :) .. So there are only Late and Whenever .. and as far as period 2 is concerned, those are the same thing. So, the key thing is, Late and Whenever are who you are going to have time to open up with access points.

It is much better to come in during the 'job transfer' period and not reserve the team through the normal method. You at least get to do a RS2 at the beginning that way and cut players.

some people mentioned this issue a million times before and after the update.. Currently going though it myself coming back on a new account it's absolutely brutal especially when you've played the game before

if you can make sure to apply for jobs in the job application period if you played that world befoee so you can get in at recruiting session 2

I don't remember how to do anything. lol But the comments here have been very helpful. Thanks! And good luck to everyone in Crum! Recruiting starts today!
