Round FOUR - First 14 Draft Picks Topic

This is where the Top 14 team owners will make their picks as far as league and division they desire to be in. First I'll re-list the theme rules for the round and the available leagues/divisions will follow:

Seven leagues – each league has two of the original 16 franchises in it (1 N.L. and 1 A.L.) – except for League 7 which has four (2 N.L. and 2 A.L.). Each of your teams will consist of a roster that has one team from each of the six time-frames listed. Beginning in 1903, the time frames are:

1903-1922
1923-1942
1943-1962
1963-1982
1983-2002
2003-2022

For example, you could end up with a Giants team with the squads from 1921, 1934, 1947, 1965, 1989 and 2004. Once you have your six teams, you need to roster at least four from each of the teams you picked. If you pick a Giant team with your first pick, you’re locked into the Giants – there’s no mixing and matching franchises. Same with League 7 – if your first pick is a Phillies team, you must take Phillies choices with your next five picks. Also, with regards to League 7, there doesn’t need to be a 6 by 6 breakdown in either side of the league. If on the A.L. side, nine people want a Browns/Orioles team, leaving only three Senators/Twins picks, that’s fine.

This thread is where the Top 14 owners in Round Three will get to choose which league they would like to play in. Once they've chosen, the seven individual league draft boards will be set up. The seven league drafts will run in Snake-Style order (i.e., 1-6, 6-1, 1-6, etc.) Alignment will be in "pick" order - therefore, the first four "Giant" spots selected will be the N.L. East - and so on.

As in previous rounds, we'll have a 24-hour window once the draft boards are posted for anyone who would like to explore a trade of their draft spot/position.

Particulars:

CAP – $125M

Clones: None.

Designated Hitter: None

Waiver Wire: No
Injuries – Turned On
Trades: No
A.A.A.: No

You may use either partial or full season stats of any player who had a split season - as long as the stats indicate it was for your franchise.

Stadium – You must use a ballpark that was one of the home ballparks for whatever franchise you’re playing.

Who Moves On?

Once Round FOUR is complete, the owners who own the eight playoff teams in each league will earn a spot in Round FIVE. 8 x 7 = 56 spots. That leaves 40 spots to fill. The final 40 spots will be awarded to the teams who had the most wins across all 7 leagues (who didn't make their league's playoffs). The tie-break (should it come into play) will be (1) Highest Exp. %, and (2) Most Home Wins.

There were a few questions asked when I first posted info about this round. Instead of repeating everything here, the original thread can be found here:

I'll be out of town until the 1st or 2nd of June so once the final results are in for Round Three, SCHWARZE will post the Top 14 drafting order.

Juice - a couple of questions/clarifications:

1) Above, it states: "the Top 14 team owners will make their picks as far as league and division they desire to be in."
When making these "picks", we will select the league, but the division must be AL East or NL East depending on the selected franchise or can we choose Central or West?

I think the answer is East only as the division alignment will end up like this using league 1 as an example (just want to clarify):

NL East: 1st to 4th owners to choose the Giants
NL Central: 5th to 8th owners to choose the Giants
NL West: 9th to 12th owners to choose the Giants
AL East: 1st to 4th owners to choose the Yankees
AL Central: 5th to 8th owners to choose the Yankees
AL West: 9th to 12th owners to choose the Yankees

2) Owners with multiple teams in a league:
If my understanding above is correct, then I'm assuming owners with two teams in a league must choose their franchises from different leagues (AL/NL).
If my understanding above is incorrect and we can select whatever division we want to play in, could an owner select 2 Yankees teams and no Giants?

5/23/2023 1:40 PM
I'm pretty sure both of these statements are correct...

That's what I get for doing the ol' "copy and paste" from the Round Three "Top 20" Picks thread...

The Top 14 will pick the league and franchise they want.

Owners with two teams in a league must have one on each side (N.L. / A.L.). We can make it happen.

Won't the drafts be 1-12, 12-1, etc?

5/24/2023 12:19 PM
Yes, I'm sure he meant *six* rounds of 1-12, 12-1, etc.

I'll make my first two picks later today.

thejuice6 has said "The Top 14 will pick the league and franchise they want." For the initial drafts in rounds 2 and 3 we also stated the specific season. I'm considering following juice's instructions to the letter and only stating the league/franchise. I kind of like the thought of the additional suspense. Would there be strong objections to only stating the franchise in the Top 14 draft?
5/25/2023 9:22 AM
I will preface this by saying that I have no horse in this race, since I don't have a Top 14 pick. So it really doesn't affect me either way.

In one of the early-to-middle rounds in the previous juice tournament, there was a draft and those In the "Top 20" (or whatever the number was) did NOT reveal their choices (only the league #). I know at least one person said he got screwed because he chose to draft second in a league (hoping to get a specific team, only for the other person to select the team he wanted).

So at the start of round 2, in this tournament, I specifically made the decision to announce my pick (even though juice didn't require it). I thought it would be more fair to those picking after me. I was glad others followed suit and then continued the procedure in round 3.

If I were selecting in the Top 14, I would absolutely prefer to have some certainty in which season I was getting, especially if I wasn't picking first in a league. Just my two cents.

Feel free to ignore my comments. Those who are picking in the Top 14 may have different thoughts.
5/25/2023 9:48 AM
Although my preference would be to post the season, I don't feel that strongly about it. Besides barracuda, with your performance in this tournament, you've earned the right to make this decision this round.
5/25/2023 2:54 PM
I just can't believe I have a top 14 pick. Just happy to be here.
5/25/2023 3:09 PM
OK, I'm going to just post the franchise, in part because I can't decide which season to choose. We'll stay in the Keystone state with both...

1. Philadelphia/KC/Oakland Athletics (League 2)
2. Pittsburgh Pirates (League 5)
5/25/2023 3:52 PM
3. Los Angeles Dodgers (League 2)
