Losing Warren Spahn killed any chance of having a decent pitching staff, so we'll be trotting out a primarily 3-man rotation of Van Mungo, Lew Burdette, and Paul Derringer. The only other reasonable option was J.R. Richard, who walks a ton of guys but is hard to hit. He's about a $1M more than Derringer for the same WHIP and innings, so I'm saving money with the hittable Derringer instead.
I took the Astros largely because they had a bullpen, and I'm using 3 of them there, and for Cesar Cedeno to man CF. The Braves' Taylor Phillips is the only lefty arm on the staff, so we'll be a fun sight for lefty-heavy lineups. I had to take a few extra innings because of how much I expect these guys to get worked over.
My lineup, however, is sadly bereft of lefties should any other teams line up like mine. Aside from Eddie Mathews and a platoon catcher, everyone else is a righty. It's a decent enough group led by Cedeno, Mathews, Hank Aaron, Bob Watson, and Kiki Cuyler. I have no idea if they can score more than this weak pitching staff will allow. I'm not inclined to bet on it. Aside from Cedeno, we have no speed to speak of. The defense is pretty decent at least. The bench is mostly worthless, but thankfully they won't be needed much as 7 starters are over 630 PA.
I think we'll be lucky to be a .500 team ultimately. Anything over that will be gravy.
