I am not defending the -5 myth swamp only your constant preaching of the scientific validity of the test that was done. I am not saying the test wasn't valid either only that without the data analysis none of us can really say one way or another.

As you stated "the way we do science is taking all other variables out", but I have yet to see where ALL other variables were taken out of the test.

as for my players; no they miss both shots evenly (and sadly) often with or without a defender in their face or back or by the popcorn vendor

not sure if this has been addressed yet, and i am not reading thru all the irrelevant garbage

what happens under the following scenario

year 1 - recruit an ineligible and sign 2 other players
year 2 - recruit 6 freshman

then - redshirt one of those 2 players from the previous class - then get your ineligible above 2.7 by his senior year

looks to me like you would have 8 seniors in year 5

Making an attempt to get the thread back on topic.

I know that this is probably a done deal, but do you guys see any way that the 6 scholarship limit can be tweaked in someway to account for redshirts?

My DIII conference in Allen currently has 4 teams with a class of 6 of greater (including my own team). One of them is a superclass of 12. They are in hot water no matter what.

But the other three of us -- I'm taking the liberty to speak on behalf of the other two -- will probably have a freshman redshirt when that class of six are seniors. And without any changes, when we signed six freshman the next time around we would redshirt one of them. I personally hate the fact that I have a class of six and I actually am hoping to redshirt two of my guys in that class of six so that I can balance things out moving forward.

But if I'm understanding the change correct, if we had a freshman redshirt the season before, we aren't going to be able to bring in 6 freshman even if one of them would be redshirted. Even if the end intention was to not have a class size greater than six, we can only recruit 5 freshman and we'll have to waste the other scholly on a JUCO or transfer or walk-on. (I'm hoping you can still have a walkon because that would be my preferred choice if I couldn't recruit 6.)

And while I'm not nearly talented enough to have progressed beyond DIII, it would seem to me that a team with a senior class of 6 that has a couple of juniors leave early and was redshirting a freshman the season before is really going to have their hands tied. You'd have 8 schollys to fill and only 5 spots.

What do folks think about being able to make the redshirt a more active part of the recruiting process? I know it's there right now but I also know a lot of the DIII teams don't really use it. But if it actually meant something a bit more substantial, I think it could help. You could still sign a class of 6 even with the holdover redshirt freshman. You just have to make sure that one of those six has the promise to redshirt. If you sign a guy that intends to take the redshirt, he doesn't count toward your freshman class of 6. And if you end up not redshirting that guy, it counts as a broken promise and you suffer the rep hit and the guy auto-transfers.

Thoughts?

It's really not that big of a deal to recruit JUCOs and transfers. I only took over a team that had 9 seniors. Not wanting a super class, I recruited six freshmen, two juniors and a senior. It worked out fine.

What if Flippy's birthday was on a Tuesday - yet his parents divorced and never saw the movie CaddieShack II. How could he work in a Library if the Dairy Queen near his house always closes in October. Plus, If Barry Manilow releases an album based on 90's hits, would Sopranos reruns still run on A&E or would the new smell of a Gumby dicipate after a few months causing the Zoo to raise their admission to $20.

Very good point Stevensd44.... I think that The New Star Trek movie will be a hit, yet the Pizza Hut Pizzone will never satisfy the hunger of Ruben Stoddard. However, My HS History teacher Mr. Stehr would not let us wear pants in class and this sometimes made the football coach eath leaches. Remember, when Fly Fishing, use a spoon but never smell the varnish. If a potato leaves Boston at 4:15 and is traveling at 75 MPH, will any team sign Barry Bonds?

So if the weight of the scientific study isnt to your liking....what is the opposite evidence?

Isnt it all stories and rumors.

As I said you can look in any division and go through the team histories and find a sad sack team that some coach grabbed and turned around, dozens of them. No one questions it ever, unless they play a -5.

Ask yourself is the scientific study is really so unimportant compared to what opposes it. How many stories about -5 teams have any evidence to support them?

I think the study may not be perfect, but from what we do know about it, it provides serious support for those of us that said the -5 is no different than any other setting, it helps some teams and hurts others.

Isnt it all stories and rumors.

------------------------

How do rumors get started, they're started by the jealous people and
They get mad seein' somethin' they had and sombody else is holdin'
They tell me that temptation is very hard to resist
These wicked women, ooh, they just persist
Maybe you think it's cute, but girl, I'm not impressed
I tell you one time only with my business please don't mess

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door

Hear the one about Tina, some say she's much too loose
That came straight from a guy who claims he's tastin' her juice
Hear the one about Michael, some say he must be gay
I try to argue, but they said if he was straight he wouldn't move that way
Hear the one about Susan, some say she's just a tease
In a camisole she's six feet tall, she'll knock you to your knees

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door
