And, IMHO, repalcement level for the low minors should be of the 25th+ round-level quality.

Ahhh, now you're agreeing with me. There will be no AA/AAA SS/2B/CF/C/3B-quality type defenders available in TC.
No. You should be drafting those.

If the TC doesn't give you anything better than the (projected) 70/65 RA/GL 2B you drafted in the 18th round who isn't sure what end of the bat to use, the prudent owner will still sign him. Even if it costs a few bucks of his precious prospect budget.

Now do you see why NOT truncating the draft is a good idea?

I'm not advocating a way to "game" the draft process, I'd like to see the creation of a position player training camp make your 12th round pick look GOOD!

I know the current pitcher TC does that....

The idea of shortening the draft saves absolutely no time (since picks are automated to begin with) and worse, would involve dev time spent programming it to be shorter that could be better spent elsewhere.

There are much bigger fish to fry than shortening the draft. Yes, add TC PP according to the ideas discussed here. But there's no reason to change the draft in regards to this issue.

I gotta say that I would hate the idea of picks 11-25 going away. Most people only rank their top 50 or 100 prospects, I rank all 500. It might seem like a waste of time to most of you, but I want to get the best player I can get every round. That way when one of those guys does get DITR, he's more likely to be a MLer and not just a AAA guy.

Would you agree that you place no importance whatsoever on late round picks?

Just looking at that, I can say you do EXACTLY what I do. And I'm forced to believe you'd do EXACTLY what I'd do with the invention of TC PP.

Quick question - as it is currently set up, you cannot offer minor league FA (at the start of the season) any bonus money or anything other than a minor league deal (w/ invite, but that wouldn't apply post-draft) unless you want to give the guy a ML deal. As a result, I often seem to lose on minor league FA because the player likes the lack of depth in another franchise more (he may have better chance of progression, playing time, etc.).

With your "addressing" of the post draft minor league FA rush, would the logic work the same way? Wouldn't you, in effect, be punishing owners who maintain better minor league depth, because the former-11th-round-pick-who-is-a-FA-under-the-new-system will choose the poorly run franchise where he'll be more likely to get 500 PA right off the bat?

Oh, and yes, I currently sign the vast majority of my Round 11-25 draft picks.

So do I. Most of my pitchers picked between rds 11-25 are better than anyone I can pick up in TC. And that's more important to me than saving a few $.

The poorly run franchise isn't likely to be offering any contracts to minor league FA. But, if he does, isn't that what the draft is supposed to be about? You know, lesser franchises making themselves better? So what's the difference if a career minor leaguer chooses a lesser franchise?

Solid plan.

Oh, wait...

Mike's just pissy because usually he can find some moke to stick up for him in his pointless solitary ventures in UnnecessaryProgrammingChangeLand.

Not happening here.

Pissy? Just surprised that so many people are defending their right to not sign their 23rd round pick. Or that so many people want to preserve the sanctity of the draft that isn't modeled after anything. Or that so many people believe a minor league FA feeding frenzy would occur when so many position players go unsigned already.

RB got pissy when I pointed out that there were 30someodd players who were drafted and unsigned at his "problem" positions this season. Who knows how many "fell thru the cracks" in the other 7 seasons. Let's just say 30. That's 240+(over 7 per team) that could/should be in the league. When you create a problem, don't come to the forums and complain about it.
