Ooh, I had to think a moment on that one.  That was the post-Sammy VH with the douche singer from the douche early 90's band, right?  Can't even remember the name, don't even want to look it up.

I did look it up. It's the dude from Extreme. We couldn't hardly give that CD away when I worked at a record store.

Nice job "bumping the thread."

So to recap, the MikeT/Death strategy:

1) Attack idea
2) Demand that idea's author recant
3) When idea's author won't recant, make fun of idea's author
4) Repeat

You sure have shown me a thing or two about a thing or two. Congrats! Now do you want to end this thread -- or should we go back and forth for another day or two of nonsense?

8/13/2010 4:07 PM
I vote to continue. You'll learn how Internet arguments work yet!

Day or two?   I can go on for years!!!!
8/13/2010 4:24 PM
I'm sure you can.

The Sander strategy:

1. Propose something that someone else has already proposed that was shot down
2. Feign surprise when proposal is widely mocked
3. Blame attackers
4. Lather, rinse, repeat

Seriously, draft "suggestions" have been popping up since the first draft around here.  That, coach hiring, and DITR are the three subjects that have the most "suggestion" threads about them.

We've HEARD these ideas before.  Yes, they have merit, but not as much merit as the potential backlash and downside.
8/13/2010 6:06 PM
I think it's HILARIOUS that people found pain with VHIII and not the other three.
Gary Cerrone would be proud!

Todd, I offered an idea. I did not "feign surprise" that Mike and Death didn't like the idea. I accepted that they didn't like it. The only "blame" I threw out was when Mike changed something I said, then attacked the fake comment.

I offered the idea to WIS because I sincerely think it will improve the game. If they disagree, no biggie, as I've said.

Seriously, end the thread. Act like adults and move on.

sandy, the thread doesn't end if you keep bumping it.

death, I posted the wrong Extreme dude.   Damn you, google!!!!

There are first round busts already built into the game guys. Not sure if anyone realizes that. But seriously the difference is that when you get one now you deserve it. There really are guys out there who spend 2 mill/2 mill on scouting. So they probably really do see guys projected at 80 that will never top 68. And as far as getting MLers in the deeper rounds it happens because of DITR. So I think the system you want is already partially in place. Just because that 7th round pick doesn't project at 73 today it doesn't mean that he won't once he gets hit with DITR status.

There is another type of bust that people forget. You get that 18 year old stud and he's in AA by the age of 19. You soon realize he is overmatched at AA and not developing correctly. You demote him. He gets ****** and actually takes a ratings hit. A few seasons later you are trying to trade a guy with 6 years of pro ball who has stopped developing and projects at 76 OVR, yet he's currently rated 66. You know he will never get there but you hope the dumb chap on the other end does not.

I think the current system is better, maybe not more realistic, but better. Why? Because the randomness is already built in with the DITR players, but if you get a high round bust it is pretty well deserved because of bad scouting budgets or stupid decisions. In my world there is a guy that has a scouting budget of like 2 million college and 0 high school. He picks near the bottom and is nearly guaranteed to get a bad player because it's going to be someone he has ranked high that most teams didn't have in their top  25 picks. So he plays the game like big money MLB teams. He has the largest payroll and not much in the minors.

This game is closer to reality then we sometimes give it credit for, but if it's totally realistic then it will really **** some people off. I really don't want to have a 54-108 team and be picking first round busts. I don't think most people do. Under the current system most teams get 2-5 future MLers depending on your definition of a MLer. Good enough.

And don't forget this... IF GUYS AREN'T SATISFIED WITH 2-5 YOUNG PLAYERS WHO WILL EVENTUALLY MAKE IT TO THE SHOW THEY CAN BUY INTERNATIONALS!!! At least in that scenario someone made a conscious choice to buy extra guys instead of them getting lucky at someone else's expense.

I'm sorry to bump this thread again but I didn't read it until now and I just want WIS to know that Mike isn't the only one who disagrees. LOL

At the risk of more abuse from Mike, et al, here is WIS' response to my 8/11 suggestion:
