Great story pedrocerrano...
Here is my story....
I knew right away that there were not very many usable versions of the draftable players, so my goal was to get as many as possible (I was drafting last each round anyway). I would figure out my teammate slots once I could better evaluate my team salary and positional needs. I was already ahead of the curve by nominating (and rostering) the best versions of Gordon and Verlander. So I quickly went after Felix, Hanley, Dibble and was fortunate to draft the only full season of Jay Payton (which is not terrible) and who brings along a stud version of Todd Helton (I replaced M.Cabrera with Helton as my 1B). Lamabe (1.11 whip) was the last usable player I drafted. The rest of my picks were either to get a teammate or to save salary. I grabbed 15 Napoli to save money (and he can pinch hit). Then came 28 Mueller, for which I was planning on using Hornsby out of position at 3B. '66 Washburn got me Bob Gibson's second best season (to go along with '42 Tiny Bonham, Verlander & Hernandez as my starting staff). I should've taken the 200K Williams there though. I instead grabbed the cheapest Perkins available and quickly realized I was not going to be able to afford Hornsby unless I shorted myself good innings (which meant having to use the Sloppy/Malone crap). Since I wasn't going to get Hornsby, I had to get Ken Williams and grabbed '23 Thurston. The rest of my picks were pretty much the cheapest guys available (well, I spent 400K more on Malone than I had to - since the '34 version was way better than the '33 version and I had some extra cap space).
My lineup looks like this...
