Not a chance. Every one of my players wears a mandatory chastity belt on the road.

WARNING: Shameless plug follows.

Y'all check out the Joes Not Pros sign-up thread in the classifieds. This is a very fun and unpredictable league that pushes owners in new directions. Each owner blacklists 4 players (say good-bye to the cookie jar) and lists 4 ordinary/rarely seen players (or just humdrum role players) that are then randomly distributed. The challenge is to build a competitive team out of whatever surprising gems or bits of crap you end up with. Not for everyone...but then neither is this position-by-position draft!

scud's team looks sick and wrong, and i mean this as a tip o' the hat

empdenied's boys will get the opponent's 4 and 5 into foul trouble before the national anthem ends

bubbly's team is just wrong

the quiet efficiency of bargearse, who kept drafting guys i hoped would fall to me, looks scary

i like swollencolon's team but it's only one mo cheeks injury away from being named apple turnover

don't count jakotay out in the ft dept., he might draw more fouls than empdenied

that's enough . . . it's late . . . bedtime

PG: Buse
SG: Drexler
SF: Bosh
PF: H Grant
C: Lanier
6: J Richardson

Sitting in the middle I felt like it was hard to make any kind of plan so I pretty much marked out a few guys I liked and waited to see what came my way.

Probably shows in the bunch of nice pieces that became harder and harder to mesh together. Regret the Buse pick a bit as it put a lot of pressure on later for assists and rebounds, but still like what he does in terms of possessions.

Bosh's usage is a bit high, but seemed the best pick to fill the gaps I had. Will be fun to see how it plays out after a bit more juggling heh.

Everyone's team looks pretty scary to me atm. Can't really say I thought anybody bombed out so expecting a hard road to maybe scrape into the playoffs.

PG Calderon
SG Wallace
SF McHale
PF Nowitzki
C Camby
6th West
7th Love

Going into the first round, I kept an open strategy. Ideally, I'd get a player who contributes across the board with my first pick. Obviously, Lebron James wasn't going to slide, but I held out (dim) hope for Larry Bird or Magic Johnson. With those guys gone, I wanted a good offensive/defensive player with a few less expensive seasons. I also wanted a guy who could rebound well enough to give me flexibility going into the PF round. Thankfully, McHale was there and he was a pretty ideal choice.

With McHale in hand, I hoped for one of the twin towers. I knew Robinson was going to be drafted early, so I was really holding out for Duncan. Knowing that was unlikely, my third choice was Nowitzki, who thankfully made it to my pick. I've had some success with Dirk, and who couldn't appreciate the added bonus of his bizarre backstory (illegitimate children, awesome drunken photos, etc.)?

I went into the point guard round with a list of picks. I knew at least one of those guys would reach me, and Calderon was it. Wanted to put a player with a lower salary and standout assist percentage in this spot.

I targeted Gerald Wallace in the shooting guard round. I got worried when other notable role players went early, but he made it to me. Very happy with that pick.

Marcus Camby is basically a poor man's Ben Wallace. No complaints.

Sixth and seventh man picks worked out great for me. Stretching my budget a little thin but I had to draft the Logo and Kevin Love's insane rebounding plus three position eligibility sold me on him.

a big thanks to gary for updating the team compo page for me. was the only thing for two days the guys had to use before making selections. i owe ya.

apologies to the league for being away for two days. i suddenly got overswamped when work reared its ugly head. i guess hubbly alluded to this a few posts ago in the draft forum, but like he said, i made a big mistake saturday... in case u didn't know, a saudi work week begins on saturday and ends on weds...i've been here for five months now and i still cant get used to this craziness...lol... so, i was on vacation last week, happy as a clam running the draft and proxying and staying up all night, having a blast really. kept looking at the calendar. ah, friday night... the weekend is here... 2 more glorius days of drafting and relaxing. i go to bed at 4 am. hubbly keeps calling me saturday morning. i dont answer the phone. my taxi driver called me. ray called me. roger called me. so many calls. when i wake up, i see all these calls on my phone. i must be popular i wonder. i call hubbley to ask him if he wants to go to breakfast. it's 11 am. hubbley says, been trying to reach ya all morning. where are u? i tell him i'm at home. just woke up. would he like to get some... "G, come in." what? "G, get in here right now." Why? "Why? today is work. u'r late. we've been..." What? ...lol damn saudi calendars!

im thrilled with my team....we have some flaws that i think will prevent me from really doing damage but this is going to be a fun team to follow all season...we are going to score a ton of points....just murder teams from the outside....i drafted 837 3s....everyone shoots it over 40%....short on assists but barros usually overachieves in that department and vince(17.3%ast) will help a bit along with whoever backs up barros....but dont think you can load up on my perimeter guys either....quick quiz....who are the only 3 sim ballers who average 28pp48 while shooting over 55% and doing it 70% in the paint?....easy to figure out barkley and shaq, but the third?...thats right...shawn kemp....big ben doesnt score but we know what things he brings....and i cant believe okafor fell to me...hes so underrated....will help kemp with paint scoring and teams with ben and kemp to give me a nice rebounding combo at the 4 and 5...all 3 get offensive and defensive boards...peja, vince, and granger help some from the wings too.....defense isnt as bad as youd think from a perimeter oriented team...only peja and barros are under 77.....im thinking ill lead the league in scoring(unless lack of assists hurt me more then i think it will) and we should reach the playoffs before losing to a team that exposes all the flaws
2/22/2010 4:27 PM
well, dh, u'r becoming the guy to beat in the bowis tourney... have no doubt, much of what u have to say about your current team here will be true... happy hunting.

awesome draft scud!

for reference, praise, belittling purposes, and overall amusement, the team comps r done above.. I had to add spaces in between cuz it was hurting my eyes trying to read all the players crammed together.

props jakotay for clifford ray . . . i seriously considered him, both because he is useful and because he (and Rick Barry) were my childhood heroes
2/23/2010 11:47 AM
gary, i owe u big... can't thank ya enough for the help. we have a blurprint of the league now. thanks again.

2/23/2010 12:36 PM
thanks hubbly.... was a pick out of necessity though. The dual picks in round 6 really screwed my team. Would have changed my last two starter picks for sure. Hoping to get mid 40 wins and a 2nd round playoff series.
