Beernoser's Bad Neighbor League Topic

Can we try to get them all in by tomorrow night?

It's no big rush. I just know it's a pain waiting to be daggered checking in every hour or more.

Also, every time we do this we have roster problems because people look up their players the wrong way.

The correct way to do it is to go to a blank draft center.

See where it says 2015 Anaheim Angels?

Change that to 1924 New York Giants or whatever team you have.

That's who you get.

If you go to a blank draft center screen and click any pitcher and sort for 1924 New York Giants you will get a different group. The reason is that if a pitcher pitched 201 innings for the Phillies and one inning for the Giants, if you look up under 1924 Giants you will see that pitcher with 202 innings.

If you do it the correct way, that player won't show up at all because he didn't pitch 25 innings with the Giants.

Adding that some 1974 AL players will populate on that page with UTIL as their position but you can’t use them. Our final roster has position limitations based on primary position and there’s no spot for a DH.

Hi all, I have been back and forth with beernoser on a roster issue and he asked that I put the question to everyone in this forum. Here is the gist of the message I sent to him. Apparently, this has not come up before because the second round dagger is new in it's current form.

Round 1 dagger was for a person (regardless of team) and a ballpark. Ok. I had Jim Gilliam and Cleveland Stadium.

Round 2 is a player only from a PARTICULAR TEAM, right? I picked the 74 Red Sox and had Luis Tiant's really good year daggered. OK, I planned for that but my plan only works IF...

I still get to keep Luis Tiant from the '64 Indians, right? I mean, to me, if Tiant had been daggered in the first round, then ok, maybe he gets daggered from both teams. But in round 2, I specifically chose a team and the rules say the daggered player has to come from that team. So, I get 64 Indians Tiant. Please confirm this is ok. My whole team strategy depends on it (Me picking the A's in the 4th round, me offering the 74 Red Sox in the 2nd round of daggering).

You may dagger my 34 Cards
Farley, I see you with two Cardinals teams and neither is 1934. Which am I daggering?

5. farleyfustle.............24 Pirates.......24 Cards..........24 A's..........74 Cards..
My bad,redcped
All this bloodshed leaving me lightheaded. You may dagger my 1924 Cards
Wise choice, Farley. Not many guys you could lose here that you’d care. I can’t really screw you anywhere. Pitchers aren’t worth discussing, and I narrow it down to two solid hitters who aren’t $19m. One is Bottomley, but you’ve got another similar 1b available. The other is one of your better OF options and one I think you’d like to use. So let’s dagger him.

I assumed the opposite, that a dagger took out all seasons from a player because rules indicated that’s how a dagger works.

I would be ok with letting you rethink your choice of teams for the second dagger though.

In my opinion - the 2nd dagger should only affect ONE certain team.
The point of picking a team for your leaguemate to dagger is to protect the players on your other teams.

Beernoser specified in the original league post that a dagger applies to all variations of the same player. This is why I assigned you 74 Red Sox and posted about this in my rationale post.

Here is the quote from the original post in league classifieds:

”If the person has the 1974 and 1984 Tom Seavers, daggering Seaver kills them both.”

So you can’t use either Tiant. Sorry!

Sorry for the delay emercito
Willie Mccovey 1b is daggered 1974

and here is the quote from the classifieds about the necessary rule change going to 20 owners:

"After the dagger round there will be a second dagger round with a big difference. After the first dagger round, each team will post which of their four teams the second dagger pick must come from. So, you will be daggered twice, but you get to choose which of your four teams the second dagger must hit. This will slow down the draft a bit, but I think it will be worth it for the agonizing effect to have to submit one of your teams to a second shot. Something to note is the dagger rounds go quickly as they don't have to be in order. Everyone can post their first dagger the same day or two. Second dagger doesn't need to wait for anything either. As soon as you post which team it should hit, it can be posted."

I'm no lawyer but this updated rule came after the original post you cite. So, I'll go with whatever the decision is but for me, that decision is going to have to come from the Commissioner. Sorry!

I see. So the FIRST dagger can hit clones across multiple teams, but the SECOND dagger is limited to a single instance of a player? That’s confusing, but I can make sense of it.

Obviously whatever Beernoser decides will stand, but I do think that the rules weren’t very well articulated on this point.

I'll go along with whatever Beernoser decides, too. We all still have to deal with the constraints of the roster requirements and the cap, so any ability to use a particular player is offset by some other choice that has to be made.
