How come a player that has your school listed as his childhood favorite won't talk to you during recruiting? Seems like regardless of the kids talents on the court if his childhood favorite school came calling he'd at least talk with them.

Zach,
A player should have moderate interest in a childhood favorite from the start.

I know what should happen, but its not the case, there is a 3 star sg that is 10 miles away and his favorite school is CC and he wouldn't even give me the time.

The responses you got indicate a moderate level of interest. But you still would have had to make a strong effort to sign him. They won't just come out of their fondness for your school.

The response was not of moderate interest it was a backup option.
Hey Coach, I think I'll probably be playing at a different school based on what I'm hearing and seeing. If that doesn't happen though, I may consider Coastal Carolina.

I spoke with Jeffrey Privalsky and he told me straight up that we're a backup option if his top schools don't come through. Let's keep him on the 'maybe' list.

If the kid is out of your range, then yeah, he might only consider you a backup. But that's realistic isn't it? Someone probably wouldn't go to a school that's been struggling when he could go to a big-time school even if the former was their childhood favorite.

No it is not, if a kids favorite school was Coastal Carolina and CC called them they would listen, would it be really tough for CC to win the recruit over a Georgia or Georgia Tech, maybe a Clemson or whoever? ABSOLUTELY! But that is where prestige comes into play in the recruiting. If a kids favorite school calls he'd absolutely listen, you are telling me that kids in real life don't talk with their favorite school regardless of if they intend on signing with them or not?
Again, never did I say the kid should be an insta sign (which is what you believe I am referring too) I only stated that he would take the schools calls and be willing to entertain their offers, it makes quite a bit less sense for him to slam the door in their face.

He signed with Georgia a much higher prestige than your school.

No way? Was that not what I said? I never said I had any problem with who he signed with, my problem was that he would never take my phone call, My school is his favorite school, yet he wouldn't take my phone calls. How is that realistic?
I completely understand the difference in prestige, but I think you are confusing my problem with Favorite schools with prestige, Yes a prestigious school will have a better ability to sign said player but I am not even talking about who he did or didn't sign with I am just talking about the communication aspect of recruiting with a recruit, a recruit in real life would talk to his childhood favorite during recruiting. Yes you are absolutely right if a more prestigious school came in and talked to the recruit it would likely get harder for his favorite school (of lower prestige in this example) to sign him. But he would still talk to them not blow them off.

My point is that regardless of you being his favorite, he was out of your range. That's just how it works. He's not going to show much interest in a school that's clearly below his level even if it's his childhood favorite.

Are you listening to anything I am saying? You are confusing a childhood favorite problem with a prestige problem.
You honestly think that if a kids childhood favorite called he would tell em "hell no" or "maybe later" ? I get that he was 'out of my range' in terms of usual prestige calculations but I was his favorite school.
Again, I completely agree it should have been tough for me to recruit against a Georgia, but that is where prestige comes in, during the recruiting / recruiting battling process.

He didn't tell you "hell no". He said you were a backup option, which is entirely realistic in this case. He's not going to sacrifice a chance to go to a big time school just because you're his favorite.

Again, you are confusing what I am talking about with a prestige issue. I understand that he would more likely go to a higher school if they came calling. The fact is he should still chat with me and consider playing for me as his favorite school. Otherwise the feature is quite pointless.
