So..... Was it idiotic of me to start my 1st rounder in HiA?

I thought he was good enough, and batted over .300. Should I keep him in HiA to start this season and then promote to AA, or start him in AA since he his good enough?

Well as far a rookies go... I give em a decent number of innings pitched/at bats and if they are dominating the rookie league, I promote em. From Low A on I usually just promote them to the next level at the beginning of each season. The exception to this is if the player is already much older, a 23 year old ML prospect should probably start in High A or AA.

but thats just me, everyone does it differently, so your not gonna get a definite answer.

No, I do it all the time depending on coaching.

Full season in HiA, AA, AAA and then he goes on the 40. Maybe he repeats AAA, maybe you call him up. No real harm done.

As for your guy, I'd slow him down just a bit. Maybe 20-25 games in AA and promote. Do the same next season with AA and AAA.

How old is your 1st rounder anyway?

The way you progress a High School level prospect vs a Senior in college level prospect are two different things.

That guy is just fine starting in HiA but being 23 already he probably needs to end up in AA by the end of the season I'd say.

Why?

its always seemed to me that the older players start out closer to projections so don't require as many seasons in the minors. I guess we would have to know his projections to know for sure.

They are closer to full development. But that doesn't mean they're "fully" developed earlier.

Whereas you many see 10, 5, 3, 2 from an 18 year old, you'll see 6, 3, 2, 1 forom a 22 year old.
