legitimate concerns
Wang's makeup is low, but as was mentioned, he doesn't have very far to go to be a good defensive SS at the ML level.

Everett's "late start" isn't a concern in my mind, because in my experience growth is much more closely tied to ML years than to age. With only 1 ML season, I'd expect him to enjoy significant growth this season.

The trade overall seems reasonable. Given your position (multiple good SP prospects, few position prospects), I'd consider doing it if I was in your shoes.

this is probably a more realistic approach than what i said- i don't want to mislead you to think you're getting away with highway robbery, but the deal looks good.

Agreed with deanod. Simple supply and demand on Wang. There's only so many guys with that kind of glove you can feel comfortable putting in the lineup. And 100 speed is a nice little bonus.

I have one in the same league, with a bat not nearly as nice. Had an option to trade him for some very good players, and hung on to him for those reasons.

as a general rule in my opinion, pitching is overvalued in most trades. i may get flamed for saying that but if i have some depth at pitcher or know i can sign a FA pitcher than i am all for trading a very good/great pitcher if it gets me more players i can start at positions i am lacking

yes and no- there's no sub for having a cy young caliber ace in the playoffs.

So I went ahead and made the deal. Where do you think I should put those guys? Both in AA?
2/15/2010 1:54 PM
I'd go high A- there's no rush here. The 2B is going to need at least 2 full minor league seasons and possibly 3 before you want to call him up. The SS may be ready sooner, but you can always just fast track him up if you decide he's ready.

or maybe i'd stick the SS in AA

make the trade. put the 2B/CF/whatever in loA, the SS in Hi A

Aces are "THE" most important thing once you get to the playoffs...1 can easily mean 2 wins in a 5 game series and 3 in a 7...2 aces and only bad luck can keep you from consistent winning in the playoffs...With that said overpay for an ace, dont for a back of the rotation guy...
And by ace I'm talking 80+ control, 90ish splits and a pitch or 2...or 3... above 70...Those not being minimums but you get the general idea.

Just keep in mind, you do run the risk of a demotion penalty if you assign him to a lower level than he was at for his old franchise.

In this instance, both players are young enough/have enough development that I think it is probably worth the risk, but just be aware that there is the *possibility* of a temporary hit to their ratings.

is this true?...i've heard this mentioned before, but i've never seen it myself...when you've traded for a player, you are assigning him not demoting him so how could he get the demotion line?

If you have pitching depth, use it to improve. Having 6 plus starters (the 5 man rotation and one in reserve at LR) and 3 plus plus relievers with a couple of inning eaters should be your minimum staff.
