In season #3, game planning consisted of little more than setting a lineup.

I had a 29-0 team at Kentucky St. (Smith DII) with All-Americans on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams. I lost to a 14-16 SIM team in the 1st round

Been a long time ago but I have a pretty good one. I was 29-0 and ranked #1 and also coming off a national championship the season before. Was feeling pretty darn good about my team and thinking re-peat. Lost in the 1st round to 16 seed SimAI..... I'm sure I went on a tantrum.

I agree with the bolded portion. And some of it is luck. You could get a coach with a talented team who is a poor gameplanner, leading to a good-but-not-great regular season. If that guy happens to gameplan well, or guess right, in the NT, well that could be a huge equalizer.

Are you saying you think there is a built-in "upset factor"?

I dont think there is an upset factor - I do think that the variation in the various data in the engine is allowed to vary to the extremes a bit more than would make the game the best -I'm ready to accept that it gets the averages about right, subject to the dynamics of game play, but I think the variability is too volatile - standard deviations too big or whatever

Don't feel too bad, Memphis won their second round game too. Go SimAI!

Wow, how often does a 16 seed make the Sweet 16?

Grecianfox, maybe your just building karma. I have the honor of losing as a 1 AND winning as a 16. My happy result was first, and then the wis gods dropped the hammer. If I was you I'd expect tremendous good fortune in your future. Or not.

I think the press issue has been brought up a lot, but it seems so obvious that:

1) Press generated too many TOs that lead immediately to layups

2) Press defenses don't commit nearly enough fouls.
