I've quit playing fantasy baseball because every owner is given the same information. It used to be that you had to know what you were doing on your own and make your own projections. All that aside, your outfield sucks. Good luck winning with those bums. It really won't matter though.....the best players to pick up will be advertised by your site. Current fantasy baseball teams are more about who the biggest dork is - as in who will pick up the player that your site keeps promoting as the next or current greatest thing.

I still find a good deal amount of knowing what you are doing goes into playing. The magazines have all the players listed, but they are usually behind the times when it comes to injuries and stuff like that. With the websites, they can list who's scoring the best or who they expect to score the best but sometimes the leading free agent scorer isn't the guy that will do your team the most good. It's up to the individual owner to figure stuff like that out.

We had a draft last night that Tribechamp ran. 10 teams standard roto but with a bunch of extra spots. 3 ut's. I picked 9th.

The Taint
1. (9) Miguel Cabrera
2. (12) Ryan Howard
3. (29) Dustin Pedroia
4. (32) Jimmy Rollins
5. (49) Justin Morneau
6. (52) Ben Zobrist
7. (69) Bobby Abreu
8. (72) Jonathan Papelbon
9. (89) Jake Peavy
10. (92) Javier Vázquez
11. (109) Matt Garza
12. (112) Josh Hamilton
13. (129) Carlos Beltrán
14. (132) Mike Napoli
15. (149) Carlos Zambrano
16. (152) Carlos González
17. (169) Stephen Strasburg
18. (172) Scott Rolen
19. (189) Ryan Franklin
20. (192) Clay Buchholz
21. (209) Nick Swisher
22. (212) Juan Pierre
23. (229) Jeff Niemann
24. (232) Daisuke Matsuzaka
25. (249) Casey McGehee
26. (252) Wade Davis
27. (269) A.J. Pierzynski
28. (272) Matt LaPorta
29. (289) Homer Bailey
30. (292) Lastings Milledge

With the extra bench spots I was able to pick up Strasburg a bit earlier than I would have normally. 2 dl spots led me to grab Beltran also.

glass less then half full?? lighten up..

Lighten up? More like face facts. Every fantasy baseball player has access to the same information. When all you have to do is read the main page for fantasy baseball to figure out who you should pick up, then what's the point? It doesn't matter anymore what a fantasy baseball vet knows when everybody else in the league has the same information you have.

You have won every fantasy baseball league you ever played in I take it
3/15/2010 10:56 PM
I don't win every fantasy baseball league I play in. I have won a large amount. Last season, I played 3 teams. I won 2 championships and came in 3rd place with my last team. I'm done playing fantasy baseball. I'm tired of people with no knowledge being able to compete for leagues because of the information that is freely given to everybody.

I disagree myself. You can give everyone the same mathematical equation, but not everyone is going to get the same answer. Even beyond that, just because a magazine tells you who to draft you still have to be up to date on injuries/trades/etc. Hell right after I took Papelbon last night, some schmo grabbed Nathan.

You also have to know how to piece your team together to form the most balanced roster you can. Position scarcity, rookies, bounce back candidates....there's plenty to process.

I've played in one league for the last four years. There is a 150 dollar buy in. I've finished 1st,2nd,1st and 2nd in the four years. I must be doing something right that the other guys who have the same info I do aren't doing.
3/15/2010 11:03 PM
We've reached the era when some stupid 14 year old can win a league because he is given all his information and he never has to make an intelligent pick. If you think it's still fun to play fantasy baseball in the era where everybody is given the same information, then have yourself a real good time. I'll look for my pleasure elsewhere.

The fun is what you make it. In that 150 a team league, our bar bill probably averages about 700 bucks on draft night. No 14 year old kids allowed. After the draft we play poker and have an end of the season BBQ.

I drank a gallon of Indica IPA during last nights draft and got to chat with some dudes who I've been playing WiS with for years without really getting to know them. It was interesting watching the JT/Primetime dynamic in the same draft chat. Not to mention bullshitting with the "infamous" Tribechamp. They were pretty civil actually and nary a RSF occured.

My next draft will be more of the same. Drinking beer while I chat online with a bunch of fellas that I've know for years.

I have a couple of free drafts coming up with guys that I went to high school/college with. The shitetalking will be fierce. More beer will be consumed. I won't play any of the free yahoo leagues. Now those I find uninteresting.

That's all good fun to me. Maybe it's the dork in my coming out, but I enjoy it.

I must've missed the advance in technology where projections became fact. Ten years ago, it was largely a matter of who wanted to spend the most time digging for good info. Now, it's much more dependent on who does the most with the same information that everyone has access to. Fantasy sites can rave all they want to about Matsuzaka being healthy and determined; I can still let someone else take him and watch him walk the winning run onto base or across the plate a dozen times this summer. Any fantasy site that claims to know whether Rauch, Liriano, or even Smoltz will be closing for the Twins in May is full of crap.
