thanks for the comments guys...

i have another question. i'm also leaning toward randomnization for the positions. however, to reduce the probability of center (1st rd) and pf (3rd rd), throw the 6th round (2 backups/2600 min rule) into the randomnization as well. that would really cause havoc and level the playing field.

would this be too drastic and take away from the purpose of drafting by position, or add a real element of drama?

thoughts?

Not sure I can afford this one when its ready... but FWIW- randomize the positions. however make a rule that you can't use the backup round selection as a starter.

Or if C comes up in the first, PF can only be an even number round (2-4-6). Same with PG/SG I guess. Keeping the bench round at the end is better since so many players would still be available.

Just some thoughts....

I agree with this. I'm not sure I see a huge problem with having dibs on C and PF ... seems like things would balance themselves out (I used to severely underestimate how good a good backcourt could be), especially if that 2nd round was a SF, since many great PF are also 100% at SF. Might be something that you need to play with a while before you know for certain, however.

Just to play devil's advocate even though I'm for randomization - in the mongoose VS cobra league from a couple years ago, it was determined that bigs always dominate the guards. whatever that's worth, if anything.

And after some thought, I think I like the backup guys thrown into the mix. But.. what if they are the first players selected? The last guy drafting would get the shaft in that scenario since the backup guys can be any position and more importantly, there are 2. It could lead to chaos and/or be a very interesting draft..

tough choice

was the mongoose vs cobra league before september of 2008? Because that's when the current engine went into place. I've recently found myself rethinking my draft strategy and building my backcourt first (with good results).

Pretty sure it was before the last update.. but WIS did their own bigs vs smalls a few months ago and I think the bigs dominated that as well.

Regardless, that argument is all bigs vs all smalls. We don't do that here. I guess it's silly to think someone would pick a guard and play him at the 4 or 5 or play a big at the point anyway so forget what I said about the cobra-mongoose league. It's not really relevant.

Maybe the question should be which position(s) dominate a game more often when everyone is playing 100% at their position.. or something to that effect. It would take some serious number crunching though by someone much smarter than me.

ba-bump.

This was a great league.  Any chance of resuscitating it?

i forgot about this league, brad. damn! hell yeah it could be revived. my only problem is, i would need a co-commish. i am teaching a full load this term and also have some other responsibilities going. but i could certainly handle the league with a co-commish. would you be interested?

i thought it was a very interesting draft style. i enjoyed it a lot.

Depends on what you mean by co-commish...but yeah, I bet we could find a way to tag-team.  Between us we're pretty much awake around the clock.  I guess I'm up for it if you are...

We'd definitely need to jack the cap up to $52 mil, given the salary increases.

late to the party on this one...but definately before.  I played in that league and I had my accident in May 08...that was an interesting league and would be fun to run with again

Let's run this bad boy, I thought it was a hell of a fun draft - lots more thinking about what will be available to you. I'll provide any help you want, scud.
