I don't know which dream world you guys are in, but over here in Allen, you guys would have half your team fail out and be declared academically ineligible.

I actually wouldn't mind that. But, if you do that, then do ineligible players go away
Yeah...why not? I never recruit INELs

Well, if you don't recruit them, then let's get rid of them!

But I would be in favor of getting rid of grades. They could still keep HS GPA around and have that impact how quickly your iq increases, as it does now.

They're a pain, but I think they need to stay for the simple fact that they cause coaches to have to make more decisions.

For example, do you want to recruit that stud player with the low GPA, knowing that you'll have to dedicate more of the practice minutes to Study Hall instead of individual practice, not to mention that his team IQ will improve slower? Or do you recruit the not-quite-as-good player who is a genius and can use more of his practice minutes towards individual skills and whose team IQ will improve at a much faster pace?

Like I said, Study Hall is a pain in the ***, but it also gives coaches more decisions to make, which I think is good for the game. We get enough spoon fed to us already as it is. Just a thought....

I think too often we want some specific formula that will always work. It doesn't work that way. You have obviously come up with some sort of formula that ALMOST always works. But, not ALWAYS. And, I think that is a fair representation of real life.

Some guys are not going to take the study hall seriously. Or, maybe you assign the study hall and they don't show up. They bribe the tutor by bringing him a hot girl and ask him to say they were there, and then they go party. Something along those lines.

I am sure there is some sort of random element to how guys improve at the skills and with their GPA. I would guess that is why it worked this way for your guy. Doing what you did gave him an excellent chance to succeed. And, he just didn't. Isn't that something we see all the time in real life. The coaches job is to give the player's the best chance. Sometimes it doesn't work.

Why in the world would there be random factors playing against us but none in our favor. I can't choose to be a hardass that gets everyone to go to class like Bob Knight by threatening not to play them. If I can't do that then players should not just simply "not make it" because of outside factors.

give what i said another shot, and if you do have anywhere close to half your team fail out, then you are free to call me out. if you want to modify it a bit, give your freshman under a 3.0 some minutes. you seem to like formulas, maybe 2 + (3.0 - gpa) * 10. if you do that, i would be very surprised if you had more than 5% of your guys ineligible (which translated to about 1 guy ineligible after 1 of the two grade reports per season). i suspect you would see about a third, maybe half that.
