Importance of an A+ arm catcher? Topic

A+++ arm catchers will lower the number of attempts. I am platooning Roseboro/Cannizzaro in a $100M theme league (no AAA). 85 games into the season, opponents have attempted only 15 steals (caught 8), well below the league average of 64 SBA. (One team has 247 SBA!)

My AAA backup for Boone
B+ Arm SB-9 / CS-10 pretty good for B+ arm

'75 Carter seems to shut down most speed teams just fine and at less than $4mil for 590 PAs he is a bargain. If I thought every team in my divsion was gonna have 300+ [real-life] stolen bases at a 80%+ sucess rate, I'd take '05 Molina. Fortunately, that rarely, if ever, happens in OLs.

I more or less ignore catchers arm in progressives. I try to avoid D- arms but I don't put much thought into it. If salary is important at all (for whatever reason) I actually avoid A+ arms because they are so expensive.

Believeit is right. NOBODY runs on `64 Roseboro. If you want to shut down the other team, nobody gets lower SBA than Roseboro, though he may not have the chance to throw too many guys out -- and his low PA requires a platoon.

I've never been tempted by Piazza, but I've tried Rudy York a few times because he's such a cheap source of homers. I didn't like the results at all. He delivered as promised offensively, but other teams in $80 MM OL ran wild on him. Back to A+ arms, though not always A+++.

Yes 64 Roseboro is truly the man but the under 500pa for the $4mil is tuff

I have used '75 Carter twice. Yes, he threw out a high percentage of SBA, but his offense was terrible both times. With Roseboro/Cannizzaro, I usually get good offense from them.

He WAS my cookie on every team I had. Have not used him since the update since his price went up so high - come to think of it I have only made one playoff since the update.

Might have to go back to Johnny. Sparky fears him.

i've been trying platooning a C arm catcher with a (IMO) cheap a+ arm catcher in Wooten. but Wooten seemed to underperform offensively. Now one of my current teams has 08 Doumit batting .333 with 8 sba, cs of 4 and cannizzaro playing against the sb teams so far catching 2 of 2 sba. that being said its still early, but a very solid start. i've noticed that if you have a below average arm starting, and you bring in a A++++ arm as a defensive replacement, you have a greater advantage. thats just my 2 cents

I used to think they were important, not so much anymore. Why? Mainly it's because when I see a A+ catcher arm on my opponents, I automatically lower my individual base runners SB level. Anything B- or under I increase the SB level.

Unless it's the playoffs, I don't take the time to research who has A+ arms and A+++ arms.

I'm just assuming many of my opponents do the same.
