I don't think that negative nearly trumps the negative that exists with the current system, but definitely something consider. In a 5- or 10-year window, the most recent seasons would be weighted most heavily, and that would take a lot of the bite out of what you're referring to. But they would have to be careful not to make it too easy for long-time coaches, that I agree with.
it is not so much a 4-8-12 system is correct, it might be 2-4-6, might be 3-6-9, might be 4-6-8, but a relatively longer time frame as the division moves up would be what I would prefer - right now, I would guess the last season has a huge impact on who gets hired, I would prefer a system that actually picks the best coach. Since so many people play this game to get to a 'dream' job, it is very important that this part of the game is perceived as 'fair' by as high a % of people as possible.

Don't get me wrong, my suggestion to Dalter on his "how to improve HD" thread was to take the value of baseline prestige, cut it in half and give that value to seasons 5-8 in the past.

Leave it as is for DIII/DII. In DI, have the formula still look at only the last four seasons, but give coaches 'lifetime achievement bonus points' for certain things: titles, draft picks etc., that stick with them no matter how many seasons ago they were.

Eh, I don't love that idea....helps the REALLY old timers too much methinks. Like the guy who signed on season 1, he is going to be impossible to beat by a guy who started season 35. At least for 2-3 more real life Years.

Jeff,

Yes I think there is room for improvement in that part of the job process. I'm not sure yet what the best solution is, but it does favor recent success a little more than it should.

Final response from CS:
"The plan for the future is to directly address the parts of the game that cause the most negative feedback before adding anything new. This is certainly an area that causes quite a bit of frustration."

Sounds good to me.
