Because ath/speed is the best thing in this game and that works best with press. If you have insane ath/speed, why not run the press? Most great coaches know the value of ath/speed, so they build the teams around it. This causes almost all the top coaches to run press. When you see coaches winning multiple national championships you do what they do. The reason I run press now was because of coaches like zhawks and what he did with his div II team.

i have no idea what the game should do, but to have the smartest and brightest coaches gravitate to one defense, just seems like it is bad for the game.

Again, that comes down to ath/speed and not exactly press. Try to press with a 30/30 speed/ath div III team and see how bad you'll suck. You'll magicly fail to win over 10 games.

i am speaking of division 1....

It works the same way for all divisions. If you have above average ath/speed, you will be a tough team to match up with. Defensively you'll force a lot of steals, wear them down fatigue wise and play good enough def FG%. Offensively the ath/speed will cause mismatches and you should dominate them. If you don't have this, you will hate running press. If you have this, you can run any set really.

if the press was not clearly a more effective option there would not be such dominance in using the press. i would also say that a lot of the teams changed to the press from the other defenses available at the expense of some success while the change was made. if they could have been just a successful with the zone or man why make the change???

to me, it is not an issue of realism, it is an issue of strategy.

in an ideal world ( i think) each of the offenses and defenses would have strong selling points, as well as potential drawbacks. ing

as it stands now, the press seems to be a bit more effective than the others.

as the fiurrdog points out, its not really an issue with the press itself, but an issue centering around the fact that ath/sp are uberimportant, and since those types of players are a perfect fit for the press, thts what we see .

i think the game would be better if they could figure out how to build someadvantages into the other Ds so that we would see a more equal split. this would do a better job of testingn great offensive teams, too.

one thing that might be kinda cool would be if your offense became slightly more effeective against a particular D the more you saw of it. for instance, in real life they often talk about how the cuse zone is effective in the tourney because thier opponents may have faced only one or two zones all year

just a thought.

I was having success with both m2m and zone, but still switched. I had a time where I never made it lost before thesweet 16 on one team. I had another span where I had second round, elite 8, sweet 16, 1st round, final four, sweet 16 on a zone team before I switched. I think press is easy to recruit for, and with FSS it really makes press even easier. If you find all guys with high pot in ath/speed, they improve much faster then before making your press that much more better when you have 90+ speed guards the start of the SO season in div II, and like 80+ ath bigs by there SO season. Maybe the new slow rate will adjust this by killing some of presses depth

Well, it would also make the other teams less prone to being fatigued out of the building with starters beign able to play longer minutes effectively on the team they are playing AGAINST.

I have no idea if the press is more dominant or not, I just know that press teams are what I want my teams to be in a simulation. I like the idea of full court trapping and will continue with the press regardless of changes they make to pacify the whiners.

I think the real problem is how fast ath and speed accelerate. Do players really get marketably faster in the span of 1 season in real life? I think they should tone down that aspect of potential in relation to the rest of the ratings and you'd see less players built for the press.

EDIT: I see furry mention something about slow rate...is that what I was just talking about?

why does brining up a "flaw" in the sim whining???
