I almost always start at least 1 FR, and sometimes 2 on all my teams. I'd rather start a FR 15 mpg rather then taking a walk on usually, but thats just because I start them enough to know it doesn't hurt me. Knowing this, I go into recruiting with a plan to sign 1 or 2 players for a promised start and like 3-5 calls, 2-4 coach calls and a ship. Both are signed for 300 bucks or less, which is similar to taking 1-2 walk ons. After that, I plan on accepting at least 1 walk on if the recruit is special enough to risk it. I can snag any top level recruit in iba, and several coaches have seen it and hate it. It is the best strat in the game imo, and CSU chico felt it a few seasons ago. Swift felt it this season. In crum, I forget who but another top coach felt it there. I have 10-25k to blow on 1-2 recruits, and 99 out of 100 times nobody can match it in the lower levels. I bombed CSU with over 12k in 1 cycle. Swift felt 9.7k over 2 cycles in iba this season, crum coach felt 9k in 1 cycle. Even in div III, I forget who, but for a SF I bombed 8k on him right before signings doing what I do and kicked him off the recruit.
If I didn't sign for cheap and just took a walk on, it'd be no different money wise. It ****** people off, but it works great at the lower levels.
