I beg of you, please put the old engine aside just in case this goes over like a lead balloon...don't discard the (only?) solid engine that you have.

I think they have said that the engine will apply to worlds as they start - and Allen and Smith are the two that have started ...err re-started...since the launch date

Isn't it possible that the 3-pt issue is throwing off everything?

Let's say you don't have those shots, and instead he passes up those 3s, then he only takes two shots, one of them being a putback attempt. That's not so bad, right?

As for distribution, I'll check into that too, but there is a minimum chance built in for each player (I don't think the old engine had that). It should be a small chance, but to say that a player has no chance of taking a shot is not realistic
Perhaps the minimum chance needs to be lower? If you're setting someone to zero, that basically means you only want him shooting on putbacks and wide-open shots.

Needless to say, distro is an absolutely enormous part of the game.

I think a minimum level of shots even with zero distro makes sense - and I hope that different players will be set to different minimums.....we all know the kid who cant shoot to save his life but keeps on shooting.....and we wall know the kid who has really good discipline

Yeah I know, but this is HD, so being able to set your distribution is the only thing you really get to do in season aside from tempo and +/- setting....no one really changes their depth chart game to game, do they?

So if you are saying that players will ignore the distro setting, whats the point?

in the old game, I thought setting the distro chart to be one of the most important skills I had in terms of winning and losing. it required knowledge of probability and general game playing - but I found it to be highly predictable OVER THE course of a SEASON - game to game it is not predictable real life either.

my guess is the new game will work very much alike.

some of the early sim games followed setups near exact, players shot essentially what they were set to each game, this resulted in 25 games with 10 players taking near identicval numbers of shots, this is not anywhere close to real life.

Looking at the most recent simulations in the Beta world, which appears to have occurred sometime over the past two or three days, distro appears to be broken.

I had set one player to 12, one player to 10 and the rest to 1; I had been tinkering with giving two guys a majority of the shots to see how it affected individual performance/fatigue. This current round of simulation is 15 games in. The player with 12 distro leads the team in minutes played but is tied for fourth in field goals attempted with 92. His FT attempts are in line with two of the three guys ahead of him, so it is not like he is losing attempts due to being hacked. The 10 distro player is 3rd on the team in FGA with 96, meaning my two leading shot takers have a distro of 1. In the prior "seasons" of simulation with a similar distro set up, my two main guys would general take between 12-25 a game each (this is from memory; I don't have a record of their stats).

As for 3pt setting, I have two guys set at -2. Through 15 games they are 6-17 (63 total FGA) and 8 of 24 (92 FGA). They are a PF and C respectively, and 3pt shots are slightly over 25% of their attempts. My leading shot taker is a PG with 101 overall attempts. He is set to -1 3pt frequency and has taken just 19 3pt shots.

I don't know if this is the same exact version of the engine being run over here or if tweaks were made, but in either event, I thought this might be useful. And I figured I'd post over here since I know seble reads this forum, whereas I'm not sure how much he or anyone else is checking in on the beta forum.

cyben, if you haven't sent Paragraph #2 in as a ticket, I'm begging you to do so immediately. Whoa.
5/24/2010 10:34 PM
Hmm...should I do so from here or from the test site? I'm not sure of the best way to do this for it to get to someone other than a level one CS rep (not a knock on them, they've been a great help to me the few times I have sent in tickets).

For the test world my distro looks good for the most recent 16 game run. My C is getting fewer shots than his distro suggests, but he's mediocre in a few categories, which may explain it.

Actually all the seasons run in the test world followed my distro fairly well and then the single exhibition game in Allen leaves me baffled. It's as if the sim came up with an entire different gameplan.

And like in Allen the big guys set at -2 are jacking up a bunch of threes.

My test world distro is also close enough to what I have set as to not cause me concern. Why this would not translate into the live worlds is bizarre.

Likewise for VMI in the test.
