New Engine - FT/Fouls Topic

fwiw, my team had 27 fouls and we play man to man...it seemed high from my perrogative...just wanted to put that out there.

I looked at my two DII conferences........ 24 teams playing 48 exhibition games.

The average fouls/game was 17 per team. The highest game had 46 total fouls called but 5 of them were in an OT period.

In those two conferences, at least, nothing seemed amiss.

Sorry Sully - I have no pity for the press teams......lol.....which is about everyone. I had the exact opposite happen to me last year. My team was high IQ, playing a slowdown against a press team AT HOME. They shot over 40 FT's to my 8 or 9, in addition to several of my players fouling out. I also played zone to boot.

Nothing wrong with 27 fouls ...

I posted the NCAA averages here:

If the new engine effectively kills fullcourt press (by making it ineffective due to the same reasons pretty much nobody runs it in real life), that's a good thing that moves the game in a more realistic direction.
If they wanted to kill it, then just go ahead and kill it, and allow coaches to change the IQs to man or zone (so as to not penalize press teams).

If it is going to stay then it needs to work correctly.

working correctly should be causing lots of fouls, having stamina issues, and giving up lots of open shots, with the bonus of creating some turnovers.

there's a reason the press isn't used with any frequency in real life, those reasons should apply here too.

There's not something wrong with lm's opponents averaging 35 fouls?

Any team draw 35 fouls per game?

I guess we'd have to see what the averages are with the new engine, but it certainly seems like a team drawing 35 fouls/game is out-of-whack. Then again, it is LM, so it may just be explained by his super human powers.

There is something wrong with averaging 35 for an entire season, yes. If they are averaging 24-28 though, that is what I would expect with the FCP.

There were more than 100 NCAA games last year with more than 41 fouls for one team.

I do, I don't use real life to justify every last thing that happens in HD...just because it happens 1% of the time IRL doesn't mean it should be happening 10% or what have you in HD.

I run a press team, that has decent IQs and stamina. Our first game, against a superior team, had this foul situation:

My team: Committed 35 fouls, shot 9 free throws.

Other team: Committed 10 fouls, shot 50 free throws.

Obviously, a small sample size. But how many games have that kind of disparity in real life?

I've found a 21 - 4 disparity, a 30 - 6 disparity, 33-5 in a Xavier/UGa game.

The FCP is just different now and we all need to adjust.

17 of your fouls came from freshmen with C-, C-, D-, and D- IQs in the press. Weighting your IQs by minutes played you had an overall IQ of B-. Illinois offensive rating was B+. Moderate advantage to Illinois.

Weighting based on minutes played your stamina is 77. That's not average...that's poor. Illinois' stamina was 86. Large advantage to Illinois.

Your oncourt average rating weight on minutes was 526. Illinois' was 575. Huge advantage to Illinois.

Basically you were overmatched in every single area and you were on the road. The bottom line is that you can no longer get away with being the inferior team in every aspect and playing the FCP. Which makes perfect sense. I'm not going to say the engine is perfect at this point but using your game as a test case, I'd have no problem with the outcome.

if your end of game settings are to intentionally foul with a lot of time , move along.
