I had a guy with 0 range and 19 glove who didn't kill me.

In the two years he was a regular for me, he hit .334-20-74 and .288-18-65 -- this was before I went after more defensive-minded Cs.

Here was his defense those years:

S4 (117 starts) -- 21 PB, 17-78 throwing out runners, CERA 4.79, 1 error

S5 (82 starts) -- 6 PB, 16-58 throwing out runners, CERA 4.48, 0 errors

Got a Catcher who is 25, can't hit. Range 30, Glove 34. His Pitch calling is 96 with potential 100. I doubt he will reach 100, might go up a point or two.

My question is: With his D and PC numbers should I plan on keeping him until he retires or am I better of getting a C that can hit, with a PC in the 50+ range?

Depends what your team needs.

But a decent defensive C is never a wasted roster spot, imho, even if he just comes in for your starter in the 8th or 9th.

Keep him until he asks for more salary than you're willing to give him. He may never ask for 1m.

I signed him for 4 years 2.4 Mil. per year. Sounds like that was a mistake. I do have a 36 yr. old C with a 88 PC, paying him 725K

Do you think I should keep the old guy and trade the younger more expensive guy? (probably a dumb question)

It's not necessarily a mistake but you can pick defensive catchers who can't hit in the Rule 5 draft. I tend to let them go when they get greedy. IMO, you aren't going to find anyone who'll take a C who can't hit but is due 9.6m over the next 4 seasons.

Sounds like your 25-year old can hit more than you're letting on, or he wouldn't ask for that much.

Also, you never mentioned AS/AA. Kind of important for a C. Much, much more important (imho) than RA/GL.

Thanks Mike,

I might just try to put him as an addition in a trade and see it that works.

My bad. Wow. That's one of the smallest untradeable contracts I've ever seen.....

I was thinking that I've seen too many guys assert that a 70/45/65/60/55 set of hitting ratings is a POS who shouldn't be anywhere near a ML roster.

Put that on an 80/80/95 defensive C, and I'll play him every day.

yeah, with the average arm, i'd say he's not worth it.
