only 6 from any one class (thus his 6 sophomores and 4 freshmen) they're all scholarship players. He'll have 2 walk-ons looks like.

In Naismith DIII, there seems to be an extremely high number of walkons, both in the form of 6-10 walkon human teams and in the form of 3-4 walkon Sims.

Sims should be taking two walkons, shouldn't they? Even if you ascribe all of the walkon-heavy human teams to ghostship free-seasoners, is there a chance that this is representative of some larger flaw in the system?

Thanks for the note. All teams have 12 scholarships. If you don't fill all of them they will get walk ons to get them up to 12. So it depends on how many scholarships were left open on a team.

I too have noticed many, many more walkons...this team that I've wanted to coach had 10 open schollies this past season and took 6 walk-ons...

corn,

Can you rephrase your question? Are you asking about teams not having players signed by the assistant coach?
6/26/2010 9:49 PM cornfused
That, and just the fact that there's an extremely high number of teams with 4-6 or even more walkons - some of those teams are Sims.

I'm used to Sims taking 2 walkons and only coaches that strike out completely taking 3 or more - and yet there's three teams in my conference alone with at least NINE walkons. Something like half of my non-con schedule had 4+ walkons... there's a consensus on the forums that walkons are way up, too.

For instance, here's a breakdown of the 130 Sim teams in Allen.

In past seasons, they would have 2 walkons - some less if the team had only gone Sim that year and there were 1 or 0 spots to fill.

This year:

0 walkons -- 0 teams
1 walkon -- 4 teams
2 walkons -- 45 teams
3 walkons -- 27 teams
4 walkons -- 19 teams
5 walkons -- 18 teams
6 walkons -- 7 teams
7 walkons -- 10 teams

Nothing has changed regarding that logic. It's quite possible that it needs to be improved, but it has worked the same way for a while.

So it's a coincidence that many teams in Naismith are starting walkons?

Thank you for the answer, but I just can't see why there are so many 4- and 5-walkon Sims.

I wouldnt be too concerned unless it happens again in another world. If not then it was probably just a flukey one time coincidence.
