Dropdowns and Pulldowns Topic

So you know you have a shot if they are somewhat receptive to your phone call and say something about you being a backup option if their top choices don't work?

If you're closer it really helps because that way you can drop 20 SVs at d3 and not have it break the bank.

You'll get one of two basic responses: "get lost, I'll never play for you" or "you're a back-up option for me". The second is pull down material

Be warned that pulldowns are HIGH risk!  You can spend a lot of money only to see him consider someone else first or, worse, consider two schools at the same time.  I've also had a player considering me only to see a higher division team go after him later.  I've ended up with walkons because I was stung too many times.

The biggest issue with pulldowns in DII nowadays is that for players with decent potential there is a pretty high chance that a DI school with swoop in and take him from you because there are so many bad recruits in the middle and bottom of the DI foodchain.

Been burned on that too. Just wish the recruits would sign with the DI school and say no to the HVs and CVs and leave me with a little $.

been trying to get the hang of pulldowns for a couple seasons now. here's what little i know: there's always the risk that a team in the higher division will swoop in and sign. part of the territory. that's why it's best to wait closer to the signing period, if not after signings have begun. it's usually a good idea to limit your pulldown search to 300 miles or so or you'll never be able to afford enough SV's to afford. think of finding pulldown possibilities as like going fishing: you've got to cast the line a lot to get a bite. if they'll consider you as a backup, they'll sign with you long as a higher division doesn't enter the picture. then i do 10 scouting visits and offer a scholarship all at once. this is often enough to do it.

Did this pulldown work, I sent 8 SVs?

"Coach, I just can't say yes right now...I'm still supposed to take a campus visit of another school. Unless they show me something, I want to play for you next season."

I just sent 2 more SV and 2 HV. If the pulldown hasn't worked yet, I can withdraw the HVs and save some potential cash.

Edit: I don't think another school is actually in the picture because it just say's he's considering us, not considering us among others.

Once you get to that point don't waste any more money on scouting trips.  If they don't start considering anyone else they're going to sign with you.  Of course, until they sign they can still get sniped by a D2 team or possibly a higher-prestige D3.  It might be worth sending 1 or 2 HVs or even a CV and a scholarship offer if you haven't sent one yet and see if you can get them locked up.
